There’s a lot to love about visiting Los Angeles—perpetually perfect weather, abundant recreational activities, a vibrant food scene and plenty of attractions that the entire family can enjoy. Here are ideas for destinations to visit that will certainly create lasting memories. 

Aquarium of the Pacific 

It’s the fourth most-attended aquarium in the nation—and for good reason. Located in Long Beach, the aquarium showcases more than 100 exhibits and offers several hands-on live encounters. Open through April 2023, the new Babies! exhibit allows visitors to come face to face with rescued baby sharks, tiny color-changing cuttlefish, mini sea jellies, and a young desert tortoise Interactive displays (think: game tables and a jelly lab) can keep the kids engaged. Pro tip: The aquarium is conveniently situated between several family-friendly restaurants, perfect for a pre- or -post-visit meal.

La Brea Tar Pits

This landmark spot appeals to adults and children alike. Outside, you can view the active tar pits for free, which showcases the remains of plants and animals dating back to the Ice Age. Inside the museum, you’ll be able to watch scientists at work as they clean and identify fossils. Younger kids will be impressed by the complete skeletons of extraordinary animalsdating back to the Ice Age. The museum itself is fairly small and unintimidating for tod-dlers, and the large out-door park area is a great spot for a family picnic.

California Science Center

Enjoy Downtown Los Angeles with a grand view

Whether your little one is a budding scientist or not, the California Science Center, located downtown, is a top con-tender when it comes to family fun. The main exhibits are indoors, when your family needs a break from the sun. Start your visit with the 3D Under the Sea IMAX show be-fore hitting up the center’s world-class exhibits and attractions. Must-sees include the immersive womb room in the Life! Beginnings exhibit, which follows the human journey from conception to birth. For aviation lovers, Air & Space features a unique collection of giant aircraft, spacecraft, and space probes.

Rooftop Cinema Club

Looking for an experience that takes advantage of breathtaking rooftop views? Book a movie screening at one of Rooftop Cinema Club’s three locations: the Arts District, Downtown L.A., and El Segundo. The alfresco experience features comfortable chairs and loveseats, classic movie snacks, and stunning skylines that’ll make for an idyllic photo op. Family-friendly films are scheduled before 4:30 p.m., but doors open well before the screening, so everyone can engage in lawn games such as cornhole and giant Jenga.

Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens

The zoo is home to more than 2,100 mammals, birds, amphibians, and reptiles and features a variety of exhibits and experiences that will captivate the little ones. Check out the Elephants of Asia exhibit, which sprawls across 6.5 acres and offers up four areas for viewing these gentle giants. The Rainforest of the Americas is also a fan favorite, taking you on a jungle adventure as you walk on a two-story Amazonian stilt house, hear the howler monkeys, and observe jaguars, frogs, and otters. Follow it up with a visit to the Botanical Gardens, which houses more than 800 species of plants from all around the world.
