Hotel Casa del Mar Celebrates 100 Years of Coastal Glamour in Santa Monica

The California coast has no shortage of beautiful hotels, but few carry the kind of history that lives inside Hotel Casa del Mar. For a century, the landmark oceanfront property has stood along the sands of Santa Monica watching Los Angeles evolve around it, from silent film stars arriving in chauffeured Packards to modern travelers chasing sunsets along the Pacific.

Originally opened in 1926 as the exclusive Club Casa del Mar, the Italian Renaissance Revival building quickly became part of Hollywood’s early social fabric. Designed by Los Angeles architect Charles F. Plummer, the property’s arched loggias, red tile roof, and grand oceanfront setting drew icons including Charlie Chaplin, Marilyn Monroe, and Clara Bowduring Hollywood’s golden age.

The concept leans into the clinical-meets-playful energy that has helped Korean beauty dominate social media feeds and beauty routines alike. Inside the pop-up, guests move between product stations organized around specific skin concerns while participating in one-on-one skin consultations powered by analysis devices designed to recommend targeted skincare routines.

Now, the historic property is celebrating its centennial with a yearlong series of experiences inspired by the glamour and indulgence of the Roaring Twenties, blending vintage elegance with the laid-back rhythm of the California coast.

Throughout 2026, guests can expect rotating culinary and cocktail activations across the hotel, beginning with a Prohibition-themed cocktail menu available all year at Terrazza and the Lobby Lounge. Spring introduces Macallan Flights paired with curated bites, while summer brings a prix fixe Macallan dinner menu priced at $192.60, a tribute to the hotel’s founding year.

The celebration also includes playful culinary nods to Los Angeles history. In April, guests can order the legendary Brown Derby Cobb Salad at Terrazza for $19.26, while May debuts a new “Bubbles and Pearls” champagne and caviar experience. By July, Patio del Mar rolls out a seasonal San Marzano tomato pizza special designed for long afternoons near the water.

But beyond the cocktails and oceanfront dining, the centennial reflects something deeper about Casa del Mar’s staying power in Los Angeles. Over the decades, interiors have shifted, trends have changed, and generations of travelers have passed through its doors. Yet the hotel’s identity has remained rooted in hospitality and the people who continue to shape it every day.

Guests visiting during the centennial can also explore the hotel’s Centennial Memory Walls, featuring archival photographs tracing the building’s evolution from private beach club to one of Southern California’s most recognizable luxury stays.

“Celebrating our centennial is about honoring the spirit of Casa del Mar where history, community, and hospitality come together,” said Charlie Lopez-Quintana, Vice President & Managing Director of ETC Hotels.
