Bohemian Blockbuster: LA Opera Revives Puccini’s “La Bohème”

Featured in Performances Magazine, La Mirada Theatre, November 2025 Issue

LOVE AND HEARTBREAK with bohemian flair—that’s the gist of Giacomo Puccini’s La Bohème, one of the world’s most performed operas. L.A. Opera presents an original production of the muchloved work at six performances, Nov. 22 to Dec. 14, at Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.

Janai Brugger stars as sweet but suffering Mimi and Oreste Cosimo as the lovestruck struggling poet Rodolfo. Gihoon Kim and Erica Petrocelli play the on-again, off-again lovers. Resident conductor Lina González-Granados leads Puccini’s transcendent score. Director Brenna Corner helms a production that the L.A. Times calls a “warm, nostalgic evocation of Paris in Puccini’s time.”
