11th Annual Monarch Butterfly Day

Aug. 14. OC Parks invites the community to learn about monarch butterflies in their natural habitat during the annual Monarch Butterfly Day at Mile Square Regional Park on Saturday. There will be butterfly experts on-site to provide educational information and answer questions, and participants will be able to go inside a netted butterfly enclosure. Additional activities include interpretive programs, children’s crafts, face painting and a balloon artist. Laguna Beach Pride 365’s West Street Beach Summer of Pride

Aug. 14. Mark your calendar for Laguna Beach Pride 365’s Summer of Pride event on West Street Beach. The year-round nonprofit LGBTQ+ community service organization kicks things off at noon with volleyball, beach activities and music. Photography Class: Macro Lens Mania

Aug. 15. Learn how to take Instagram-worthy photos during Sherman Library & Gardens’ special class hosted by local photographer Jeanine Hill. Participants will go on a live shoot in the garden with Jeanine and watch her use an iPad to demonstrate what visual effects each lens can offer to get great close-up images. Lens will include the 150mm Dragonfly Macro, the Rokinon 100mm Macro, the new Laowa 25mm (extreme close-up) and the Lensbaby lens. Paint/Sculpt-Out in Old Towne Orange

Aug. 14. To mark the closing day of the California Art Club’s 110th Annual Gold Medal Exhibition, which is now on view at the Hilbert Museum, painters and sculptors with the historic arts organization will set-up the tools of their trade in Old Towne Orange around the museum to create new artwork featuring live models dressed 1940s attire. This event will also feature a children’s art-making station. 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Free. 167 N. “Symphony in the Cities”

Aug. 14-15, 22. Pacific Symphony returns this summer to make appearances in the three different cities in Orange County to deliver a little fun and inspirational music to friends old and new. Upcoming concerts will take place in Mission Viejo (Aug. 14), Irvine (Aug. 15) and Orange (Aug. 22). With a potpourri of popular classics, movie music and patriotic tunes, this year’s programs are hosted by KUSC radio announcer Rich Capparela with music director Carl St.Clair leading Pacific Symphony as well as guest artists.
