Dodgers’ Parade

Nov. 1. The Los Angeles Dodgers will celebrate their World Series championship with a parade in Downtown Los Angeles. The event begins at Gloria Molina Grand Park on Spring Street, in front of City Hall. Mayor Karen Bass will officially commence the parade. Dodgers players and staff will travel atop double-decker buses. Due to extensive street closures and limited parking, fans are strongly encouraged to use public transportation. Día de los Muertos Celebration at the Pier

Nov. 1-2. Celebrate Día de los Muertos at the Santa Monica Pier with a two-day art installation around the historic carousel, adorned in marigolds and papel picado. This event includes ballet folklorico performances and kids’ activities throughout the weekend. On Sunday, a parade with Aztec dancers will kick off at the pier’s west end, followed by live mariachi music, arts and crafts, an artisan market and a car meet. You can also visit altars by local artists Sylvia Sanchez and Yolanda Medina, as well as a community altar where they can share photos and memories of loved ones. Rock & Run 5K 

Nov. 2. El Segundo residents and neighboring community members will test their endurance on a 3.1-mile course through the beach city, culminating in a celebration at Rock & Brews El Segundo with live rock music, classic American food and cold beer. Proceeds benefit local charities, including the Armstrong Family, who faced a challenging year with their newborn’s health, C.A.S.E. Pantry, providing bi-monthly food assistance for qualifying residents and the El Segundo Education Foundation, supporting the El Segundo Unified School District. Nov. 2-3. Presented by Refinery29, this beauty convention offers a dynamic space for enthusiasts to explore the future of beauty with industry leaders like Jonathan Van Ness and Riverdale’s Lili Reinhart. Event highlights include a masterclass by Sir John (Beyoncé’s makeup artist), panels with the co-founders of Summer Fridays and Anastasia Beverly Hills, a marketplace featuring cult and international brands and a “Buseum” with installations tracing the history of beauty. Oct. 31. Echo Park izakaya Ototo channels the spirit of Japan’s 7-Eleven this Halloween with a special one-night pop-up. Expect creative twists on convenience store favorites, including crustless egg salad sandwiches, onigiri, “Nana Chicki” karaage, “Not So Instant” cup noodles and Yakisoba Pan (noodles in bread). This immersive celebration of Asian American food and culture at Guess Jeans Campus, presented by Johnnie Walker, features exclusive whisky cocktails for guests 21+ and experiential activations. Danny Elfman

Nov. 2. Returning to the Hollywood Bowl, Danny Elfman will be featuring songs from his solo albums, iconic movie scores and television appearances. Johnny Jewel & Desire join him in this special concert, offering a scaled-down version of Elfman’s October 2022 Hollywood Bowl debut that captivated audiences over two nights. LA Opera’s Romeo and Juliet

Starts Nov. 2. Returning to LA Opera for the first time since 2011, Romeo and Juliet unfolds in Verona, where the feuding Montagues and Capulets clash amid a forbidden love that seals the lovers’ fate. Conductors Domingo Hindoyan and Lina González-Granados lead Gounod’s lush score, featuring debuts by Amina Edris and Duke Kim as the tragic pair, with Justin Austin as Mercutio and Craig Colclough as Lord Capulet. Día de Los Muertos with Dudamel

Nov. 1-3. A fusion of Afro-Mexican and Brazilian music led by Gustavo Dudamel, honors Día de los Muertos featuring Villa-Lobos’ innovative composition and Gabriela Ortiz’s Yanga, a 2019 piece for orchestra, chorus and percussion ensemble with African instruments and intricate rhythms. Also included is Revueltas’ La noche de los Mayas, whose energetic rhythms and traditional Yucatan flute interlude capture Mexico’s ancient culture intersecting with the modern. Balloon Museum

Now Open. This exhibition of 21 large-scale installations has made its way to L.A., showcasing interactive experiences inspired by air. The exhibit features everything from expansive ball pits and LED tunnels to oversized bubbles ready for hands-on fun, as each piece is artist-created and part of the “Let’s Fly” edition of this touring show. Visitors can enjoy playful moments like bouncing off “Ginjos,” nudging charcoal-tipped spheres, or diving into a whirl of staticky balloons.
