Street Food Cinema: Wicked Opening Night

Esa-Pekka Salonen Leads Debussy & Boulez

Returning to the Walt Disney Concert Hall to lead the LA Phil in Beethoven’s Eroica, Esa-Pekka Salonen conducts a towering symphony of rebellion and resilience that reshaped classical music. The program opens with Debussy’s Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, a dreamlike meditation in contrast to Eroica’s defiant spirit. Violinist Pekka Kuusisto, a longtime Salonen collaborator, joins for Bryce Dessner’s Violin Concerto—a bold, kinetic work he calls “super energetic and athletic,” anchored by sweeping shifts that feel cinematic in scope. Jack Kirby: Heroes and Humanity at the Skirball

Now Open. The Skirball Cultural Center dives into the cosmic legacy of Jack Kirby, co-creator of some of Marvel’s most iconic heroes—Captain America, Black Panther, the Hulk, Thor and more. Beyond the panels, the exhibit explores Kirby’s life as a first-generation Jewish American, WWII veteran and visionary artist whose political storytelling helped shape the comic book canon. Visitors can view original illustrations, rare prints, personal artifacts (including a drawing gifted to Paul and Linda McCartney) and a bold reminder of comics’ roots in resistance and identity.
