Día de los Muertos Celebration at the Pier

Nov. 1-2. The Santa Monica Pier transforms into a living tribute for Día de los Muertos. The carousel glows beneath cascades of marigolds and papel picado, surrounding visitors with color and memory. Saturday opens with an Aztec blessing and parade leading toward the carousel, followed by ballet folklorico, live music and a blessing of the altars—each one a story rendered in petals and candlelight. Artist Sylvia Sanchez curates the installation, joined by the community’s own altar where anyone can leave a photo, a name, or a story to honor loved ones gone. Street Food Cinema Presents: The Evil Dead Live-to-Film + The Cellar Experience

Oct. 30-Nov. 1. This Halloween season, Street Food Cinema turns up the terror with three nights of The Evil Dead, blending live orchestral performance and immersive horror. The series returns with composer Joseph LoDuca’s chilling score performed live by a seven-piece orchestra—breathing new life (and death) into Sam Raimi’s cult classic, rated NC-17 for its visceral scares. Before the screening, guests can descend into “The Cellar: An Underground Evil Dead Experience,” an all-new haunted maze inspired by the film’s Necronomicon universe, where the brave can face legion of Deadites. The Best Friends Animal Society returns to the Rose Bowl Stadium for its annual Mega Adoption Event, uniting hundreds of adoptable cats and dogs from local rescues and shelters for one heartwarming weekend. Visitors can browse adoption booths, meet pets looking for their forever homes and enjoy a lively festival atmosphere with vendors, interactive activities, music, giveaways and great food. LA Opera Presents: The Phantom of the Opera — 100th Anniversary Celebration

Oct. 30-31. A century after its 1925 debut shocked audiences into gasps and fainting fits, LA Opera resurrects The Phantom of the Opera for Halloween night—bringing Lon Chaney’s haunting performance back to the big screen where it belongs. This special 100th anniversary presentation pairs the silent film classic with a live performance of Roy Budd’s orchestral score, a lush and spine-tingling composition written decades later but perfectly attuned to the film’s eerie grandeur. The Hunchback of Notre Dame with Live Organ Accompaniment

Step inside Walt Disney Concert Hall as acclaimed organist Clark Wilson resurrects the gothic grandeur of The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923) with a live organ score that fills the hall with echoes of medieval Paris. Nov. 1-2. Back for its second year, L.A. Porchfest transforms the city’s porches, lawns and patios into intimate performance spaces—doubling in size with 46 stages and more than 170 local acts. The festival reimagines live performance across walkable hubs in East Hollywood, Los Feliz, Silver Lake, Mar Vista and Culver City, bringing together musicians, comedians, clowns, storytellers and performance artists for a weekend of creativity and community. Nov. 1. The Wallis Annenberg PetSpace brings a heartfelt, animal-centered twist to Día de los Muertos, celebrating the pets who’ve filled our lives with love—and those we still miss. West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval

Oct. 31. Every Halloween, West Hollywood throws one of the largest and wildest street parties in Los Angeles. Stretching along Santa Monica Boulevard between Doheny Drive and La Cienega Boulevard, the event draws nearly half a million revelers for a night of dancing, drinking and over-the-top costumes. Expect spontaneous dance circles, pop-up costume contests and nonstop celebration as the city transforms into a sea of sequins, wigs and wings.
