Stars and Artistry Shine at the 2024 MUAHS Guild Awards

On the glamorous evening of Sunday, February 18th, 2024, the Beverly Hilton Hotel was abuzz with excitement and elegance as it hosted the much-anticipated 11th annual Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Awards (MUAHS, IATSE Local 706). Presented by leading names in beauty and care, Ardell and Eminence Organic Skin Care among many others, this gala event celebrated the artistry and creativity that illuminate the worlds of motion pictures, television, commercials and live theater.

The awards ceremony, renowned for recognizing the spectrum of outstanding achievements in make-up and hair styling, was brilliantly hosted by the charismatic Melissa Peterman. Known for her memorable roles as ‘Barbra Jean’ in “Reba” and ‘Brenda Sparks’ in CBS’s #1 comedy “Young Sheldon,” Peterman brought her signature wit and charm, ensuring an evening filled with laughter and memorable moments.

Highlighting the night were the distinguished honorees who have left indelible marks on the industry with their visionary work. Annette Bening, celebrated for her illustrious acting career, was bestowed with the 2024 Distinguished Artisan Award. In a touching moment, Olympic swimmer Diana Nyad accepted the award on Bening’s behalf, symbolizing the blend of art, dedication, and friendship that transcends industries.

The awards also shone a spotlight on legendary figures in the make-up and hairstyling world. Michael Westmore, whose transformative work has captivated audiences in iconic films and series such as Rocky, Star Trek, and Raging Bull, was honored with the esteemed Vanguard Award. His contributions have not only defined genres but have also inspired generations of artists.

Kevin Haney, an artist whose remarkable talents have been showcased in Driving Miss Daisy, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and Hocus Pocus 2, received the Lifetime Achievement Award for make-up artistry. His ability to bring characters to life through make-up has earned him a revered place in the annals of cinematic history.

For hair styling, the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Ora T. Green, whose Emmy-nominated work on Star Trek: Nemesis, Blade, and Good Times has set the standard for excellence in hairstyling. Green’s innovative and trend-setting styles have made significant contributions to the visual storytelling process.

The 2024 MUAHS Guild Awards was not only a celebration of individual brilliance but also a testament to the collective spirit and passion that drive the entertainment industry forward.
