Live On Sunset brings Crow, Local Natives, Empress Of and other artists with local ties to West Hollywood on November 14. Before the Sunset Strip becomes a place in someone’s music history, it has to be a place where they play. For Sheryl Crow, that history includes early appearances at the Roxy and Viper Room. On November 14, she returns to headline Live On Sunset, a free outdoor concert on the same stretch of West Hollywood.
The city’s one-day event will take place on Sunset Boulevard between Doheny Drive and San Vicente Boulevard. Crow leads a lineup that also includes Local Natives, Empress Of, Grace Bowers, Doug Locke and Mia Moretti, with registration is now open.
“The intimate venues in West Hollywood will always hold a special place in my heart because they’re where I figured out who I was as an artist,” Crow said in the city’s announcement. Her return gives the event a personal connection to the clubs that helped shape its headliner’s early career.
The other bookings extend that neighborhood thread. Local Natives played Sunset Boulevard in 2016, while Empress Of has sold out the Roxy twice. Doug Locke developed his career at Hotel Ziggy, and Moretti began playing vinyl at the Standard Hotel on the Strip. The lineup creates a way to hear artists at different stages while considering the local rooms that supported them.
That is a useful premise for a concert on a street so closely associated with music. Rather than leave the connection at the level of recognizable venue names, the program brings together people whose own working histories run through the neighborhood.
Organizers plan one main stage, food and beverage offerings and activities along the corridor. A free registration requirement gives prospective attendees a clear first task, even as the city continues to release practical details about event times and street closures.
For now, Oct. 14 is the date to put on the calendar before Nov. 14. Register when access opens, then check the official event site for arrival information and the performance schedule. The concert offers a chance to spend a day on Sunset listening to some of the musicians who made a life around it.
