Main Kitchen Cafe Granada Hills: A San Fernando Valley Brunch Destination Built on Family and Legacy

Late morning in Granada Hills, and Main Kitchen Cafe is already in motion. Tables turn steadily, servers move with purpose, and the kitchen keeps a tight rhythm behind the counter. Regulars walk in without hesitation. Some don’t even need a menu. Courtland Miller, the owner, is on the line, working through orders with the kind of precision that comes from doing this every day for over a decade.

The restaurant opened in 2014, and what started as a neighborhood diner has grown into one of the San Fernando Valley’s most consistent brunch destinations. “We’ve been here for 12 years…we have a lot of regulars, a lot of support, people every day,” he said.

Built By Family, Carried Forward

Main Kitchen Cafe began as a partnership between Courtland and his wife. He ran the kitchen. She ran the front of house. Together, they built a place that people trusted. When she passed after a battle with cancer, the responsibility shifted overnight.

“My wife passed away… cancer,” he said. “Just carrying on the legacy. That’s the most important part.”

That legacy now includes his daughter, who grew up in the restaurant and now runs the Canoga Park location after years of working her way through every role.

When The Community Showed Up

The shift wasn’t carried alone. Courtland spoke about the days after his wife’s passing with a focus on the people who kept walking through the door—not out of routine, but out of support.

“It definitely affected a lot of people… she touched so many lives,” he said. “People still come in and ask about her.”

Main Kitchen Cafe had already become part of the neighborhood by then. Families had been coming in for years. Some had celebrated milestones there. Others had simply made it part of their weekly routine.

Courtland described watching those same families grow up inside the restaurant—parents bringing in newborns, then returning years later with kids old enough to order on their own.

After the loss, those relationships became more visible. People checked in. They stayed longer. They made sure the restaurant stayed full. That support shaped what Main Kitchen Cafe became in its next chapter—not just as a business, but as a place the community actively chose to sustain.

What To Order: Consistent, Scratch-Made, and Done Right

The menu focuses on New American breakfast and brunch, with clear influences from Southern cooking and Mexican flavors tied to family background.

Standout dishes at the Granada Hills location include:

Pork casted eggs, a signature that has stayed on the menu since opening

French toast with a custard-rich center and balanced sweetness

Eggs Benedict that holds consistency across every plate

Hand-breaded catfish with grits, built from techniques passed down through family

Courtland keeps it simple. “We spend a little more money… because we want quality,” he said. The menu reflects that mindset—focused, consistent, and built on execution rather than overreach.

The Celebrity Menu-And Why It Works

Main Kitchen Cafe has developed a quiet reputation among well-known names. Doja Cat, Alan Alda, Paul Rodriguez, and Stevie Wonder have all spent time here, often returning. The restaurant’s approach is simple—no interruptions, no photos, no pressure.

“We give them privacy… we don’t bother them,” Courtland said.  That trust led to the creation of the “Eat Like the Stars” menu, where dishes reflect what those guests actually ordered.

In one case, the team reached out directly to confirm it. Vanilla Ice’s order—fried chicken and pancakes—now sits on the menu, a straightforward combination that aligns with the restaurant’s Southern influence and comfort-driven approach to brunch.

The result reads less like a celebrity feature and more like a record of who’s passed through the dining room—and what brought them back.

Canoga Park: The Next Chapter

The Canoga Park location expands the concept with a larger footprint, beer and wine offerings, and live entertainment. It also sits near Kevin Hart’s production studio, bringing in a steady mix of new guests.

The Granada Hills location remains the original—where the story started and where most of its regulars still return. The Valley has plenty of places to eat. Fewer places hold onto people the way this one does.

Main Kitchen Cafe keeps its focus where it matters—on the plate, in the room, and in the relationships built over time. Courtland is still on the line. His daughter is running the next chapter in Canoga Park. And the people who supported them early are still walking through the door.

That continuity is what holds the restaurant together—and what keeps it moving.
