At 4 a.m., long before most of Brea Mall raises its gates, the lights are already on at its newest anchor. Inside Life Time Brea, early risers can move through a strength workout, settle into a yoga class or claim a quiet corner of the work lounge before the day begins. Life Time officially opened the North Orange County athletic country club on July 9, marking the company’s 10th California location and fourth in Orange County. The scale makes clear that “gym” is only part of the equation.
The three-acre destination encompasses nearly 123,000 square feet: an 85,000-square-foot building paired with approximately 38,000 square feet of outdoor amenities. Across the property, fitness areas share space with swimming pools, pickleball courts, recovery suites, children’s programming, dining and places designed for members to work or simply stay awhile.
Summer makes the outdoor Beach Club the immediate draw. Its resort-inspired setup includes a leisure pool with waterslides, a six-lane lap pool, cabanas, lounge chairs and an outdoor dining area and bar. It gives families a place to spend an afternoon while lap swimmers can keep a structured training routine.

Aquatics programming also arrives at a useful time for parents thinking about water safety. Life Time offers swim lessons for children, building skills that can translate beyond the club’s pools to Southern California’s beaches, lakes and backyard gatherings. Parents should still provide active supervision and use properly fitted flotation devices when appropriate; lessons strengthen water competency but never replace an attentive adult.

Upstairs, the experience turns toward training. The main workout floor is equipped with cardio and strength machines, free weights, functional training areas and space for one-on-one coaching. Boutique studios offer barre, cycling, Pilates, strength and yoga, including heated classes.
Life Time’s signature programs add structure for members who prefer coached workouts. GTX divides its attention between cardio and strength, while Alpha emphasizes Olympic-style weightlifting and metabolic conditioning. The club also introduces CTR, or Core Tone Reform, a low-impact reformer workout built around strength, stability and alignment.
For people with limited time, the variety supports a practical approach to movement. A member can fit in a short workout, take a full class or break up a workday with a quick training session—the real-world version of the “exercise snacking” trend, in which brief periods of activity are spread throughout the day.

Recovery receives its own footprint. Men’s and women’s locker rooms include steam rooms, saunas, whirlpools and cold plunges, while the LT Recovery Zone offers HydroMassage, CryoLounge chairs, Normatec compression and Hyperice equipment. The property also houses a LifeClinic for chiropractic care and a full-service LifeSpa offering massage, skin, hair and nail services. Some treatments and services carry additional fees.
Pickleball players have five courts: three climate-controlled indoor courts and two outside. They accommodate open play, lessons, leagues and social events, giving the club another setting where exercise and community overlap.
Families are central to the design. The Kids Academy serves children from 3 months through age 11 with age-specific activities spanning movement, sports, arts and enrichment. Its rooms include infant and toddler areas, a children’s gym, studios and outdoor play space. LifeCafe provides made-to-order meals, snacks and smoothies, while a complimentary coworking lounge allows parents and other members to handle emails or meetings between activities.
“We want this space to be the destination of choice for the Brea community,” Life Time Brea lead general Brad Malvin said in the company’s opening feature. “This is where you can come relax, energize and socialize with like-minded people.”
The opening also reflects the continuing reinvention of the American mall. Fitness and wellness destinations generate repeat visits that traditional retail alone often cannot. For Brea Mall, Life Time joins a broader redevelopment strategy aimed at turning the property into a place where people can shop, dine, exercise, work and gather.
