Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade
Jan. 19. Celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. at this 40th annual waterfront parade along San Diego Bay. Enjoy an afternoon of bands, floats and drill teams as they march along Harbor Drive. The parade is coordinated by the Zeta Sigma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., the oldest African American fraternity in America. 2–5 p.m. Downtown. alpha-zsl.org/mlkdayparade.
2020 Carlsbad Marathon & Half Marathon
Jan. 19. Enjoy a runner’s paradise this Sunday, on a course that weaves through Carlsbad Village and along the oceanfront Pacific Coast Highway. The Tri-City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon and Half Marathon’s coastal course, ideal weather conditions, live music, and tons of cheering spectators will keep runners motivated for the duration of the course. Prohibition Anniversary
Jan. 17-19. Don’t miss the downtown speakeasy’s celebration to commemorate all things Prohibition: the 100th Anniversary of the first day of Prohibition; legendary gangster, Al Capone’s birthday; and featured cocktail recipes that date back to the early 1900s. Beverage director and Prohibition’s lead bartender, Ryan Andrews, will feature a specially curated menu of eight cocktails, all priced at $14. Dress up in 20s apparel to receive complimentary cover, and get there early as the first 50 attendees will receive exclusive swag and gifts. Jan. 19-26. Pair panoramic views of San Diego with a locally-sourced lunch or dinner this San Diego Restaurant Week. The lunch menu is priced at $25 per person and includes seasonal preparations by Chef Stephen Voitzwinkler such as Mister A’s classic Gonestraw Farm Chicken “Schnitzel” and Line-Caught Local Swordfish Picatta. Jan. 19-26. North Park’s One Door North will offer a special dinner menu priced at $40 per person in celebration of San Diego Restaurant Week. Entree highlights include crispy-skinned Pan Seared Scottish Salmon with sweet potato puree, swiss chard and roasted grapes, and a Roasted Wild Mushroom Flatbread with truffle, arugula, and caramelized onions. Restaurants Give Back to Australia
Upcoming | Jan. 20. Dine out for a great cause this Monday, when several restaurants around San Diego will be donating a percentage of sales to support W.I.R.E.S. (Wildlife Information, Rescue, and Education Service). W.I.R.E.S. is the largest wildlife rescue and rehabilitation charity in Australia and provides rescue and rehabilitation for all native Australian animals. All five OMG Hospitality Group restaurants will donate 25% of all sales from the day, and all City Tacos locations will donate 10% of all sales from the day. wires.org.au

Babette’s Feast
Jan. 16-19. Lamb’s Players Theatre presents Babette’s Feast, a theatrical adaptation of Isak Dinesen’s remarkable short story, made famous by the Academy Award-winning film. The Humans
Jan. 16-19. Erik Blake has brought his family from Pennsylvania to celebrate Thanksgiving at his daughter’s new apartment in lower Manhattan. As darkness falls outside the ramshackle, pre-war duplex, eerie things start to go bump in the night. Soon, family tensions reach a boiling point. Playwright Stephen Karam takes a look at the hopes and heartbreaks of the modern American family in this uproariously funny and deeply chilling drama. Winner of the 2016 Tony Award for Best Play.
