Katsuya Ko
Opens. Feb. 5. Westfield UTC welcomes Katsuya Ko, part of the famed Katsuya brand. (“Ko” means “child” in Japanese.) The bright, contemporary restaurant features geometric lighting, playful floral and Japanese accents, an open robata and sushi bar, and a dining patio. A modern Pan-Asian menu offers signature dishes like the Original Crispy Rice and Yellowtail Jalapeño; plus new plates such as chicken and kimchi gyoza with black-garlic ponzu; and sake, beer and wine to drink. Reopens Feb. 6. After a three-month closure for remodeling, George’s at the Cove reopens its Ocean Terrace on Feb. 6; with reservations available beginning Feb. 7. The rooftop dining area and bar now boasts a new glass perimeter wall sans view-obstructing pillars, new dining tables and flooring, new permanent heaters and more. Now Open. With tasting rooms in South Park, Bay Park and Scripps Ranch, Harland Brewing Company opens its fourth location, nestled in 4S Ranch. The Old Globe: Hedda Gabler
Feb. 7-March 8. San Diego welcomes film, TV and stage actress, Katie Holmes (Dawson’s Creek, Broadway’s Our Town). She stars in the title role in Hedda Gabler, which receives its world premiere at The Old Globe. Henrik Ibsen’s famed 1890 play about a woman trapped in a loveless marriage—whose scheming gets her into trouble—comes to us in a new version by Erin Cressida Wilson; Barry Edelstein directs. La Jolla Playhouse: The Recipe
Feb. 10-March 22. At La Jolla Playhouse, the “funny, colorful and delicious” world-premiere play The Recipe—written by Claudia Shear (based on the book Dearie by Bob Spitz) and directed by Lisa Peterson—centers on a girl from Pasadena who became one of the world’s most beloved chefs and TV personalities: Julia Child. Among its seasoned cast, Broadway veteran Christina Kirk stars as Julia; with Tony Award winner Norbert Leo Butz portraying Child’s husband, Paul. Del Mar Fairgrounds: New Banksy Exhibit
Through April 19. A huge success around the world (three million visitors and counting), a special exhibit visits San Diego for the first time: The Art of Banksy: Without Limits. The roughly 60-minute experience lets visitors peruse 200 works by the world’s most famous and mysterious graffiti/street artist, including prints, photos, murals, sculptures and certified originals.
