“Glow Ball” at The Loma Club

Aug. 8. When the sun sets, the golf course at The Loma Club will begin to glow in an eye-popping way. Kick off the weekend with the property’s summer “Glow Ball” golf tournament. The fun includes a welcome beer; as well as unlimited beer tastings on the course—all while you play nine holes along the specially illuminated, glow-in-the-dark course (glow ball included). “Salsa Under the Stars” at Quartyard

Aug. 8. Outdoor event venue Quartyard in East Village transforms into a salsa dance party on Friday night, featuring top salsa band The Manny Cepeda Orchestra Quartet. Dance the evening away as the music group performs live salsa and Latin music; along with cuisine from the award-winning El Comal Restaurant, including tacos, burritos, nachos and bacon-wrapped hotdogs; plus beer, wine and cocktails for purchase. Del Mar Tacos & Tequila Festival

Aug. 9. This annual festival at Del Mar Thoroughbred Club’s Seaside Cabana features margaritas; local and regional cervezas; specialty tequilas; tacos from the area’s best taco shops, restaurants and food trucks; and live music. General admission includes entry to the Del Mar Racetrack and access to an exclusive trackside area to watch the horse races; five small tequila drinks and/or beer tasters; access to food for purchase; plus tequila sampling. HessFest XV

Aug. 9. Mike Hess Brewing celebrates its 15th anniversary with a family-friendly (dogs welcome, too!) beachside bash: HessFest XV. The fun includes music, family activities, food, local vendors, and plenty of Mike Hess beer. Proceeds benefit Oncology and Kids (OAK), helping children and families affected by cancer; and Zero8Hundred, which helps to empower transitioning veterans. Little Italy Mercato

Aug. 9. Did you know San Diego County is home to around 50 certified farmers markets? If we had to pick our favorite, this quintessential San Diego weekend experience would be high on the list. Stroll among 150 vendors offering fresh produce, flowers, meat, eggs, cheeses, sauces, pantry items, home and bath products, and more—with peeks of San Diego Bay a few blocks away. Hillcrest CityFest

Aug. 10. Stretching nine city blocks, this annual summer art and music festival attracts around 150,000 visitors from across San Diego and SoCal. Enjoy a full day and evening of live entertainment across two stages—including live bands and electric dance music DJs. More highlights: food stations from top local restaurants and food trucks, cocktails and craft brews, the CityFest Kids Zone, and arts and crafts vendors. Aug. 9. Indulge in delicious food from across the diaspora at this family-friendly annual culinary celebration—including African, Caribbean and African-American cuisine. Wine Tasting Soiree at the Bay

Aug. 9. Wine tasting while enjoying dreamy water views makes for a perfect San Diego Saturday. The Mission Bay Beach Club hosts a fun wine-tasting experience along the waterfront on its bayside patio. Each tickets includes tastings of 10 wines from eclectic wineries across the region; along with food stations, live jazz music, and a summer artisan market featuring local vendors (plan to do a little shopping!). 1-4 p.m. Tickets are $50 per person and include 10 tastings. The Old Globe: Noises Off

Through Aug. 10. The Old Globe presents “a brilliant and uproarious comedy that pulls back the curtain on a theater company struggling to keep its production from falling apart.” Prepare for belly laughs in this bedroom farce—written by Michael Frayn—centered on a theater troupe as they rehearse for a play, complete with romantic entanglements, backstage antics and spats among the actors and crew that threaten to derail the show. Lamb’s Players Theatre: THE ‘70s!

Through Sept. 14. Lamb’s Players Theatre presents the world-premiere musical, THE ‘70s! — The Golden Age of the Album, written by Kerry Meads and Vanda Eggington. The rousing production—directed by Meads, with choreography by Christine Wisner Hall and musical direction by Eggington—celebrates the 1970s, the decade that produced more influential music albums than any other.
