7 Spots to Celebrate National Oyster Day in San Diego

JRDN
Oysters at JRDN at Tower 23

It’s time to toast one of America’s favorite shellfish. We’ve rounded up some of the best places in San Diego to feast on fresh oysters on Wednesday, August 5. Aw shucks, no need to thank us, just join us in the celebrations.

Ironside Fish & Oyster
The 2nd annual Shuck-a-Thon at Ironside welcomes six of the area’s most notable female chefs to join Chef Jason McLeod for an evening of shucking. Oysters are going to be served for just $1 a piece with each chef taking an hour from 4-10 p.m. to shuck as many as they can with proceeds going to their respective charities of choice. Last year’s event totaled 2,565 oysters during the five hour event. 1645 India St., Little Italy, 619.269.3033. ironsidefishandoyster.com

JRDN
From 4-9:30 p.m., guests in the lounge of JRDN Tower 23 will enjoy $1 oysters and $5 Scarpetta Rosé, with beautiful oceanfront views to top off the evening. 723 Felspar St., Pacific Beach, 858.270.2323. t23hotel.com

Sirena Gourmet Latin Seafood Restaurant
Spice up the night in Little Italy with south-of-the-border inspired seafood including the signature oyster selections that look almost too pretty to eat. The Angelmo oysters are made with salmon caviar, chimichurri, smoked paprika air and iceplants. 1901 Columbia St., Little Italy, 619.564.8970. sirenagourmet.com

Sandbar Sports Bar & Grill
Just steps from the ocean in the heart of Mission Beach, Sandbar Sports Bar & Grill offers their classic oyster shooters with oyster, house cocktail sauce and horseradish. Add some Sky vodka for an extra kick. 718 Ventura Pl., Mission Beach. sandbarsportsgrill.com

The Fish Shop Encinitas
For a North County stop, head to The Fish Shop Encinitas and enjoy the oyster shooter served spicy or non-spicy and served with a beer chaser garnished with a poached shrimp. Diners can also enjoy oysters by the fish shop dozen (14) for $20. 1010 South Coast Hwy. 101, Encinitas, 760.436.4665. thefishshopencinitas.com

Blush Ice Bar
Welcome one of the Gaslamp Quarter’s hottest new restaurants and enjoy Blush Ice Bar’s oyster bar with oysters on the half, served with house-made sauces. Top it off with a blush signature cocktail topped with a float of exclusive house-made, fresh fruit ice. 555 Market St., Gaslamp Quarter. blushicebar.com

Sabuku Sushi
