New in the Hood: Get your hands on local, artisanal gourmet products at The Hood Market, part of The Hood Kitchen in Costa Mesa.

Chef-partners Shelby Coffman and Christie Frazier created The Hood Market within their Hood Kitchen Space–a health department-certified kitchen space for rent–to provide a showcase for their favorite West Coast gourmet products. Many of its artisanal oils, preserves, savory sauces and spiced nuts are made by the space’s professional clients, and many can be sampled. Our favorite? Handcrafted chocolates from Valenza Chocolatier, which pay homage to the Italian heritage of its founder, certified master chocolatier Amy Jo Pedone. Try the Tartaruga where Georgia pecans are roasted to a crisp finish and laid out to form the ‘legs’ of our shoreline friend. Creamy, silky caramel punctuated with sea salt is luxuriously draped over the pecans, forming the salty, chewy body and a shell of rich Venezuelan 61% dark chocolate is layered on to protect the enticing confection. 350 Clinton St., Costa Mesa, 714.549.2430.  thehoodkitchen.com
