Laguna Beach theater presents star-studded virtual FUNdraiser

Laguna Playhouse marks a century in Laguna Beach with its annual gala—only virtually. The event, August 29 at 7 p.m., features performances by opera and musical theater star Nathan Gunn and New York-based musical-comedy duo Lauren Molina and Nick Cearley, aka the Skivvies.

The playhouse also launches Keeping Live Theatre Alive at the event, a program featuring original vignettes written and performed by actors including Kim Brockington (“Guiding Light”), Jodi Long (Flower Drum Song), Joe Mantegna (“Criminal Minds”), Alfred Molina (Fiddler on the Roof), James Pickens Jr. (“Grey’s Anatomy”) and Tony Shalhoub (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”). Boebe Productions closes out the evening with a number from last year’s sold-out production of Mamma Mia!

“Not even a pandemic can keep us from celebrating our century of cultivating the arts,” comments executive director Ellen Richard.

Tickets are free but reservations are recommended. Those who donate $100 or more will be entered to win Cognac Flower Drop diamond earrings by Lugano Diamonds valued at more than $42,500. The evening also includes a “raise the paddle” fundraising opportunity hosted by auctioneer Jim Nye; proceeds go directly to Laguna Playhouse and its education and outreach program. lagunaplayhouse.com
