A fast-casual restaurant with a modern spin on classic Asian fare, chef Gavin Portsmouth uses traditional Asian flavors as inspiration and reinvents them to create an original and approachable array of dishes. (Westfield Century City shoppers might remember Take a Bao from its popular stand in the mall’s posh food court.) Architect Ana Henton of MASS Architecture & Design utilized elements such as concrete, wood, metal and glass in the restaurant’s space, creating a sleek, contemporary atmosphere in which to enjoy dishes including lemongrass-caramel chicken wings, duck confit with plum hoisin-smothered Muscovy duck leg, and a bành mí filled with pork loin and pâté. Cocktails, craft beers and wines round out the menu. (Pictured: pork and leek potstickers with yuzu marmalade.) 11838 Ventura Blvd., Studio City, 818.691.7223. www.takeabao.com
