Music Festival Fashion

We broke down a classic Coachella look and scouted out the components at some of our favorite Los Angeles boutiques.

SoCal springs and summers are awash in music festivals, the big daddy of which is undoubtedly the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio. For two weekends (April 10-12 and April 17-19), music fans and scenesters take to the desert to hear an eclectic group of established and up-and-coming artists that, this year, includes AC/DC, Jenny Lewis, Fitz & the Tantrums, Florence and the Machine, Drake and dozens more. But let’s be real—music is only part of the story.

Attendees may strike an “I just threw this on” pose, but what everyone’s wearing is as carefully composed as the songs played onstage. Count on seeing lovingly worn ’70s rock tees, itsy-bitsy floral sundresses, shredded cutoffs, scads of crochet and tie-dye, backpacks, cross-body fringed bags, earthy jewelry, beat-up boots, gladiator sandals and other hippie-chic threads and accoutrements. Oh, and skin. Lots and lots of skin. We broke down a classic Coachella look and scouted out the components at some of our favorite L.A. retailers. Now, you just need to add the rockin’ attitude—and a ticket.
