Shakey’s Culver City Flagship Reopens with a Reimagined Pizza Parlor Experience

Shakey’s Pizza Parlor has officially reopened in Culver City, unveiling a flagship location that leans into the brand’s long-standing role as a communal gathering place rather than a nostalgia act. The redesign reframes what a pizza parlor can be in 2025—grounded in shared experience, stripped of gimmicks, and built for people who still want to sit at the same table.

Founded in 1954 as “Ye Public House,” Shakey’s helped establish the modern pizza parlor decades before fast casual dining reshaped expectations. The Culver City flagship reflects that lineage, pairing the brand’s original spirit with contemporary updates. Vintage signage, warm lighting, and subtle 1980s-inspired design elements anchor the space, while curated music and improved sightlines give the room a lived-in ease rather than a staged feel.

Food remains central to the experience. Shakey’s continues to serve its signature handcrafted pizzas, golden fried chicken, and Mojo® potatoes—menu staples that have carried the brand through generations. New menu items, rotating seasonal offerings, and the Shakey’s Parlor Pilsner broaden the lineup without straying from its core identity. The popular Bunch of Lunch® Buffet remains in place, maintaining the brand’s reputation for accessible, family-friendly dining.

The company’s cultural footprint extends well beyond food. Over the years, Shakey’s has appeared in films including Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and Wayne’s World, as well as television series such as South ParkSix Feet Under, and Gilmore Girls. Its fan base has included musicians and actors who often cite the parlor as part of their personal histories rather than a trend to be rediscovered.

“This remodel is a tribute to the history, flavors, and memories that have made Shakey’s part of our guests’ lives for more than seven decades,” said John Tilly, Creative Visionary of Shakey’s USA. “We’ve evolved with each generation while staying true to the spirit of the pizza parlor as a place to relax, celebrate, and enjoy food together.”

Senior Vice President of Marketing Cindy Staats, who began her career with the company in 1991, said the flagship represents a long-term vision rather than a one-off redesign. “Our goal is to honor the brand’s heritage while welcoming a new generation that values authentic, shared experiences,” she said.

In an era dominated by convenience and screens, Shakey’s Culver City flagship positions itself as a space where time slows down, meals are appreciated, and connection remains the point.
