Though his five-decade-long career sprang from the editorial pages of fashion magazines, late photographer Helmut Newton is perhaps best known for immortalizing his subjects in provocative states of undress. His erotic images riled up feminist critics while making Newton one of the past century’s most influential photographers. His work is on exhibit at the Annenberg Space for Photography in a new installation entitled Helmut Newton: White Women • Sleepless Nights • Big Nudes. More than 100 large-scale photographs from his first three books are on view, as well as two documentaries about the photographer: one by his wife, June, and another commissioned by the Annenberg Space that includes contributions from gallery owner David Fahey and Newton protégés the “Three Boys from Pasadena:” Mark Arbeit, George Holz and Just Loomis. 2000 Avenue of the Stars, Century City, 310.209.4560. annenbergspaceforphotography.org
