See Cirque du Soleil’s Ovo and Michael Jackson the Immortal World Tour

Two new Cirque du Soleil shows electrify Los Angeles entertainment in January.

A blue-and-yellow “grand chapiteau” adjacent to Santa Monica Pier hosts Ovo starting Jan. 20. Meaning “egg” in Portuguese, Ovo delves into the insect ecosystem with 55 performers and a riot of colorful, evocative costumes. The main act, a trapeze stunt, features six “flyers,” and the finale features “20 artists running, jumping and leaping up against a 24-foot vertical wall.”

At the Staples Center within downtown’s L.A. Live, the spirit of Michael Jackson is brought to life in Michael Jackson the Immortal World Tour, Jan. 27–29. Through dance, music, visuals and fantasy sequences, Cirque pays tribute to the King of Pop. These are in addition to Iris, the permanent Cirque show that opened at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood last year. www.cirquedusoleil.com
