Magellanic Penguins Debut at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach

penguin-aquariumSee more than a dozen Magellanic penguins debut at Long Beach’s Aquarium of the Pacific’s new June Keyes Penguin Habitat.

Built with a rocky area, plants and a beach resembling the topography of their native land, the new home for the rescued South American penguins also features a pool for swimming and nesting areas modeled after the ones Magellanic penguins use for laying eggs in the wild. Visitors can learn more about the animals with exhibit panels and interactive touch screens, and get up-close and personal with the tuxedoed birds in a windowed crawl-in space built below the pool. The aquarium’s Ocean Theater screens the short film The Wonderful World of Penguins, while the Great Hall projects a lights and sounds show, immersing viewers in the penguins’ natural environment. 100 Aquarium Way, Long Beach, 562.590.3100. aquariumofpacific.org
