On the heels of ice cream sensations Salt & Straw and McConnell’s Fine Ice Creams opening last year, Columbus, Ohio-based artisanal ice cream pioneer Jeni Britton Bauer opens the first West Coast outpost of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams March 20.
What makes Midwesterners rabid for a sweet scoop? The secret to Jeni’s ice cream is milk from grass-grazed Ohio cows. Each ice cream is then filled out with carefully sourced ingredients from around the world.
“We make everything we can from scratch, with many of our ingredients provided by farmers and producers in the Midwest or shipped directly from international partners,” says Jeni. “Our scoop shops, with our impeccable service, serve as a true reflection of the work we put into our great ice creams.”
The 1,200-square-foot shop will feature the full menu of built-from-the-ground-up ice creams Time magazine called “the best in America.” Order flavors like salty caramel, brambleberry crisp, and L.A.-specific wheatgrass, pear & vinho verde sorbet in cups, in hand-made waffle cones, by the pint or in a signature ice cream sandwich (mashed between two hand-piped macaroon cookies). The shop will also offer limited-edition flavors inspired by the seasons, pop culture, culinary history, and world trends.
