Tortilla Republic offers what anyone would want in a West Hollywood restaurant: a breezy outdoor patio perfect for people watching, inventive cocktails and a menu boasting familiar fresh flavors.

Tucked away on Robertson Blvd., between Sur and The Abbey, the lively Mexican grill and tequileria is the newest venture from the team behind Taste restaurants in West Hollywood and Pacific Palisades. The menu offers modern fresh fare like duck confit tacos, lobster enchiladas, and tacos de jicama (with thinly sliced jicama “tortillas”, shrimp, chipotle mayo, cilantro, red onion and avocado). You can also order any of their other tacos (carnitas, rock shrimp, chicken, ahi) in a skinnier style, with lettuce in place of tortillas. For heartier appetites, try the short rib chile verde burrito that is stuffed with short ribs slow-roasted tomatillo and jalapeno chile verde sauce, jack cheese, rice and beans.

Tortilla Republic’s take on cocktails is anchored with their margaritas and incorporates an extensive list of tequilas. Depending on how adventurous you are you can stick with the house margarita, or explore a range of more eclectic options like the jalapeno, cucumber-lavender, or beetarita (made with fresh red beet and a ginger puree).

Weekends at Tortilla Republic are crowned with brunch options that include huevos divorciados with poached eggs, tomatillo ranchero sauce, bacon, black beans, tortilla strips and queso fresco; torta de huevo with a fried egg, brioche bun, apple wood smoked bacon, cheddar, arugula, aioli and breakfast potatoes; and hominy and cheddar “hash browns” with eggs, oyster mushrooms, green onion and guajillo chili sauce, in addition to classic breakfast items. Compliment your meal with Mexican brunch cocktails like the spicy bloody Maria with poached shrimp, and prickly pear bellini with fresh prickly pear juice. Check out what we ordered:
