The waiting is over. Now those seeking Din Tai Fung fare west of the San Gabriel Valley can more easily access the beloved dumpling house at its new location inside the American at Brand starting Nov. 4. It’s certainly one of our favorite Los Angeles Chinese restaurants to open in the city for a long time!
Garnering legions of rabid soup dumpling fans, the outpost of the Taiwanese dumpling house will not only offer its signature soup dumplings but also exclusive truffle dumplings—an award-winning steamed dumpling laden with the finest truffles and known for only being served to foreign dignitaries and very special guests in Taiwan—and a full bar and cocktail program, which is a first in the U.S. Other dishes to round out the menu include shrimp and pork shao mai, noodle with minced pork sauce, and Shanghai rice cake with chicken, shrimp and pork noodles, among others.
The contemporary 6,800-square-foot space boasts patterned wood screens and floor-to-ceiling glass walls, and will seat approximately 160 people across its main dining area. Find it on the newly transformed Brand Boulevard, next to the new grand lobby entrance of Nordstrom.
Will that be enough seats to accommodate the throngs of dumpling seekers that line up for hours in front of Din Tai Fung’s San Gabriel Valley locations daily? We can only wait and see.
