Those who attended the screening for The Artist at last year’s festival, for which Pedro Almodóvar served as guest artistic director, might argue nowhere. Celebrating its 26th year as a program of the American Film Institute on Nov. 1-8, AFI Fest brings together established and emerging filmmakers from around the world to present their work to movie-loving audiences and the entertainment community. The world premiere of Hitchcock, starring Anthony Hopkins in the role of director/producer Alfred Hitchcock, opens the festival. The closing-night film is Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln, featuring Daniel Day-Lewis as America’s 16th president. Screenings are free. Screenings at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, Chinese 6 Theatres at Hollywood & Highland Center, Egyptian Theatre and Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. afi.com/afifest
