Talks & Telescopes
Aug. 9. Dr. Mike Brown, Professor of Planetary Astronomy at Caltech, recounts how more than 30 astronomers over the past 175 years have speculated about a giant planet beyond Neptune—and all have been wrong. In 2016, he and Konstantin Batygin joined that list, proposing that Planet Nine, possibly 20 times farther from the Sun than Neptune, is the most plausible explanation for several puzzling phenomena in the distant solar system. In this talk, Brown will explore the evidence behind their hypothesis, the ongoing search for this elusive world, when it might finally be found and the possibility that they, too, could be mistaken.
