One of the Sunset Strip’s newest dining destinations, Roku puts you in the A-list mix. It’s tucked into the western end of the strip, just a block away from celebrity hangouts like 1Oak, BOA and the Blind Dragon. Roku is the newest offering from Innovative Dining Group. The concept takes traditional teppanyaki and sushi to the next level with and array of Japanese dishes, sushi and teppanyaki experience.

Toro Tartare Roku
Toro tartare at ROKU in West Hollywood.

As you walk into ROKU, you’re greeted by a 20-foot custom-painted mural by local emerging street artist, Hans Haveron. The 8,000-foot indoor/outdoor space features a bar and lounge area, live-edge sushi bar and teppanyaki area separated from the restaurant with sake barrels suspended from the ceiling.

You can have a few distinct experiences: in the main restaurant with a menu of Japanese specialities like toro tartare prepared tableside, uni toast with lemon tarragon béchamel and sautéed foie gras with candied pineapple and balsamic plum wine. But for a more lively experience grab a seat around one of four teppan grills., where chefs lively prepare everything from A-5 Japanese Wagyu, Matsuzaka beef and Santa Barbara spot prawns at interactive grill tables; or at the live-edge walnut sushi bar where sushi chefs finesse fish and inventive Omakase offerings.

ROKU is also part R&D—serving as a test kitchen for the IDG culinary team to experiment and create new dishes for the global brand’s other Japanese concepts worldwide. Did we also mention it has one of the largest selections of Japanese whiskey in L.A.?
