Fresh fruit and friendly competition share the table at Melons & Mahjong, a summer gathering hosted by LA Mahjong League and Weiser Family Farms. Taking place Thursday, July 23, at ROW DTLA, the event pairs a curated melon tasting and beverages with 90 minutes of Taiwanese 16-tile mahjong.
Guests can select from three experience levels: beginners receive guided instruction, intermediate players sharpen their strategy and learn LA Mahjong League house rules, and experienced players can join an open-play session—with a fresh melon waiting for the winner.
Beyond the game, the afternoon celebrates local agriculture, food access and community. For every ticket sold, $5 will be donated to Food Forward, a Los Angeles nonprofit working to reduce food waste and fight hunger.
