In Focus Los Angeles, 1945–1980, on view through May 6, at the Getty Center, presents approximately 25 photographs from the museum’s permanent collection. Among them are both iconic and relatively unknown works by artists whose careers are defined by their association with the city, who may have lived in Los Angeles for a few brief but influential years, or whose visit inspired them to create memorable images. Works by Robert Cumming, Joe Deal, Judy Fiskin, Anthony Friedkin, Robert Heinecken, Anthony Hernandez, Man Ray, Edmund Teske, William Wegman, Garry Winogrand, Max Yavno and others are grouped around the themes of experimentation, street photography, architectural depictions, and the film and entertainment industries. The show is part of the Getty’s Pacific Standard Time initiative, an unprecedented collaboration of more than 60 cultural institutions across Southern California celebrating the birth of the L.A. art scene. 1200 Getty Center Drive, L.A., 310.440.7300. getty.edu
