Along the serene shores of Marina del Rey, the Jamaica Bay Inn, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, is the epitome of coastal charm and modern luxury. Recently revitalized through an extensive renovation, this hidden gem offers a refreshing escape with its tropical ambiance, updated amenities, and intimate waterfront views. Whether you’re seeking a relaxing retreat or an adventurous getaway, Jamaica Bay Inn has something for everyone.
A Fresh New Look: Inside the Renovation
Pacifica Hotels, the visionary owner and operator behind Jamaica Bay Inn, recently completed a top-to-bottom renovation of all guest rooms and suites. Led by Norah Shimer of Pacifica Design Group, the transformation has breathed new life into the property, embracing a blend of classic coastal elements and contemporary design.
“The goal for the new guest rooms was to brighten and freshen up a previously dim and dated space,” says Shimer. “I was influenced by the name of the hotel to add unique details such as palm leaves, seagrass-inspired textiles, and rattan, which give the room a tropical, yet classic feel. The new look incorporates a palette of serene blues and neutrals that beautifully complement the marina views.”
The renovation didn’t stop at the guest rooms. Bathrooms and hotel corridors were also completely overhauled, creating a cohesive and inviting atmosphere throughout the property. The result is a bright, airy space that perfectly captures the essence of a coastal getaway.
A Tour with the Hotel Manager: Hee Sung Choi
To get a true sense of the Jamaica Bay Inn experience, I had the pleasure of touring the property with Hotel Manager Hee Sung Choi, whose passion for the hotel and its recent updates is contagious.
“We wanted to create a place where guests feel like they’ve escaped to an island paradise,” Choi shared with enthusiasm. “The renovation has allowed us to enhance the guest experience significantly, and I’m thrilled with how it turned out. From the moment you step into your room, you’re greeted with a sense of tranquility and comfort that’s hard to match.”
As we walked through the property, Choi pointed out the thoughtful touches that make Jamaica Bay Inn stand out. “We really focused on the details,” he explained. “From the rattan accents in the rooms to the seagrass-inspired textiles, everything was chosen to evoke a sense of calm and connection to the water.”
Choi is particularly proud of the team’s effort to maintain the hotel’s laid-back, beachy vibe while also introducing modern touches that cater to today’s travelers. “It’s all about balance,” he said. “We wanted to keep that casual, welcoming feel that our guests love but also provide them with the luxury and convenience they expect from a Hilton property.”
He also emphasized the importance of the hotel’s location and how it influences the guest experience. “Our proximity to the water and the views from our rooms are something that sets us apart,” Choi noted. “We’ve worked hard to make sure that when guests look out their window or sit on their balcony, they’re reminded of why they chose to stay with us—because it’s truly a slice of paradise.”
The Property: A Slice of Paradise
Jamaica Bay Inn is more than just a place to rest your head—it’s a destination in itself. The property boasts an array of amenities designed to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. One of the highlights of the property is the on-site restaurant, Beachside. Known for its delicious cuisine and ocean side views, Beachside is a favorite among both guests and locals. Indulge in dishes like the grilled salmon served with a tangy citrus glaze or the hearty Beachside burger, featuring a perfectly cooked patty topped with caramelized onions and sharp cheddar. Their Happy Hour and weekend brunches are particularly popular, offering the perfect opportunity to indulge in fresh, coastal-inspired dishes while soaking in the marina’s beauty. A must try is The Beachside Margarita, made with fresh lime and a hint of orange liqueur, is a must-try, especially when paired with their crispy calamari or truffle fries.
For those looking to stay active during their visit, Jamaica Bay Inn has partnered with Pro Sup Shop to offer paddleboard and kayak rentals. “Our collaboration with Pro Sup Shop has been a fantastic addition to the guest experience,” Choi noted. “It’s a great way for guests to get out on the water and explore Marina del Rey from a different perspective.
