Sam Morril
Jan. 3-5. Sam Morril is one of the fastest rising stars in stand-up comedy. In 2011, he won The Laughing Skull Comedy Festival in Atlanta, and has been named one of Comedy Central’s “Comics to Watch.”  Th 8 p.m., F-Sa 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. $9. American Comedy Co., 818 Sixth Ave., downtown.




Thursday Beer Run
Jan. 3. Led by Step By Step Run Co., this free weekly run begins at Eppig Brewing Waterfront Biergarten and travels along beautiful Shelter Island. Runners and walkers of all levels are welcome on 2- and 3-mile loop options. Participants will receive $1 off Eppig pints after the run. Gulls Hockey

Friday Night Liberty
Jan. 4.. It’s a new year for new art at the Arts District at Liberty Station’s Friday Night Liberty. The monthly art walk showcases the working artists, dance, music and theaters that are helping the district grow in its mission to highlight arts and culture in San Diego. Tonight, San Diego Dance Theater will preview its January concert, If I Was A Bird Yoga Kids Studio will host a yoga and dance performance and Anneville Jewelry will celebrate its grand opening. 5-9 p.m. Free. Beat Farmers Hootenanny
Jan 5. The Farmers and friends return for the ninth annual Hootenanny to carry on the legacy of Country Dick Montana and hold the torch for country music and Americana in San Diego. Special guests Jesse Hughes of Eagles of Death Metal and Mike Watt of Minutemen, Jack Tempchin, Casey Hensley, Nathan Rainey, Laura Jane and more also take the stage. 21+. 8 p.m. $23-$41. Holiday on the Bay
Through Jan. 5. The Winehouse Experience

Rady Children’s Ice Rink
Through Jan. 6. Hold onto the holiday spirit just a little longer with Liberty Station’s extended days of ice skating. Lace up your skates and glide away at this outdoor ice rink located in the historical NTC at Liberty Station. Net proceeds from this event benefit the Thriving After Cancer program in the Peckham Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Rady Children’s Hospital. 10 a.m.-10 p.m. $10-$15. 2640 Historic Decatur Road, Point Loma, 619.221.1970.




Orfila Oceanside
Now Open. Orfila Winery and Vineyards opened a new tasting room near the beach. Orfila Oceanside is now serving their award-winning wines and small plates created by Executive Chef Luke Morganstern. The dishes are made up of locally sourced products and include items such as artisan cheese and charcuterie boards, crispy Brussels sprouts, tortilla flatbreads, and a selection of desserts for any sweet tooth. 221 N. Adult Cooking Class
Jan. 3. Start off the new year with healthy eating made easy. This class will focus on using fresh, non-processed ingredients in everyday healthy dishes. Get hands on with recipes such as cauliflower pizza crusts with the toppings of your choice, seared steak topped with a chimichurri sauce, and a freshly chopped fennel salad. MythBusters: The Explosive Exhibition
Through Jan. 6. Get hands on with your favorite experiments from the hit TV show MythBusters before the exhibit closes this weekend. Use scientific observations to search for truth behind commonly held beliefs; test your hypotheses to determine whether a myth is plausible, busted or confirmed; and submit your own myths for future episodes. “Rising Tide”
Through Jan. 6. This interactive, multi-media exhibit features three distinct exhibitions by Francisco Eme, Jacob Sundstrom and Jana Brike, each of which creates an immersive environment that evokes stillness or space for contemplation. “Mamma Mia”
Through Feb. 24. Bring your inner dancing queen to this Tony Award-winning show. Through the storytelling magic of the songs of ABBA, follow Sophie’s quest to determine who her real father is on a Greek island paradise. The fun filled cast features veteran San Diego stars such as Natalie Nucci, David Humphrey, Lance Arthur Smith, Richard Bermudez, and David Engel, with debut performances by Misty Cotton, and Nancy Snow Carr.
