1926 Social Club at La Valencia Hotel

Opens May 28. Opened in 1926, La Jolla’s “Pink Lady,” La Valencia Hotel, turns 100 this year! In celebration, the hotel debuts the 1926 Social Club, taking place on its Med Patio every Thursday evening. Embrace the glamorous Roaring Twenties with live jazz music, featuring a rotating roster of musicians, beginning with Erika Davies on May 28; plus Prohibition-era cocktails with fun names like the Mary Pickford, Cat’s Rye and La Jolla Holiday. Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series San Diego

May 30-31. It’s the city’s biggest running event since 1998, and a favorite among locals and tourists alike. Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series San Diego comprises the famous Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon and Half-Marathon (May 31), starting in Balboa Park, taking runners through eight neighborhoods, and finishing downtown—with plenty of idyllic San Diego scenery and nonstop music and fun along the way. S.D. County Vintner’s Wine Festival

May 31. Calling all oenophiles! The San Diego County Vintner’s Association 2026 Wine Festival takes place at Bernardo Winery on Sunday. Enjoy an afternoon of sunshine and wine sipping, featuring more than 20 local wineries; plus live music, a silent auction and light bites. Each ticket includes unlimited wine tastings; individual charcuterie; and a complimentary logo tasting cup. Arcana

Opens May 28. Encinitas welcomes a mystical, mysterious cocktail den, hidden away in the heart of the village. Brought to us by the owners of The Roxy Encinitas, Arcana is outfitted with just 47 seats. Pass through an astrolabe-inspired door and jewel-toned velvet curtains that open to an intimate space: candlelight, a cathedral-esque back bar, dark textured walls, brass accents, and marble and quartzite finishes. Kura Sushi

Opens May 29. The largest brand of revolving sushi restaurants in the U.S. opens its second San Diego location (the first is in the Convoy District) at The Valley shopping center. Kura’s famed Revolving Sushi Bar (a two-layered conveyor belt system) lets guests choose from 100 Japanese dishes (protected by ventilated sushi lids) that snake through the dining area, making for a fun, interactive dining experience. Queenstown Del Mar

Now Open. The latest outpost by Queenstown Hospitality Group, Queenstown Del Mar offers New Zealand comfort food, wine, beer and cocktails amid a fun “greenhouse hideaway” layout designed by Michael Soriano—featuring fully retractable windows, lots of lush greenery and ocean views. Menu highlights include New Zealand sausage rolls, meat pies, beer-battered fish ‘n’ chips, burgers and lamb skewers. Sugarfish 

Now Open. Famous for its traditional sushi preparations and omakase-style service, Sugarfish by Sushi Nozawa (with locations in L.A., O.C. and NYC) has opened its first S.D. location in Little Italy. The restaurant’s decor is modern and minimalist, with a wood-beamed ceiling and small sushi bar. Choose from three prix fixe menus, with delights like toro hand rolls, Hokkaido scallops and Japanese yellowtail; or try the 10-course omakase experience. New Tasting Menu at Fleurette

Now Available. La Jolla hot spot Fleurette unveils its first Tasting Menu by chef Travis Swikard. Available exclusively in the restaurant’s Soleil Room (pictured)—a tranquil, glass-enclosed space surrounded by greenery—“Menu du Marché” comprises seven courses, spotlighting French and Italian Riviera flavors, coastal seafood, and local, seasonal produce. Think: canapés to start, handmade pasta dishes, market fish, roasted meats and elegant desserts. Broadway San Diego: The Sound of Music

Through May 31. On the heels of the 60th anniversary (in 2025) of the Oscar-winning film, Broadway San Diego presents the North American tour of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music at the Civic Theatre. Maritime Museum: Take Me to the Water

Now Open. The floating Maritime Museum of San Diego is home to one of the larger collections of historical sea vessels in the U.S. Visitors can partake in dockside ship tours, narrated on-the-water adventures, and insightful exhibits. Don’t miss the new exhibit, Take Me to the Water: Histories of the Black Pacific, highlighting 500 years of Black Mariner legacies in fishing, whaling, sailing, exploring, swimming, surfing and defense that shaped the U.S. Pacific.
