San Diego Chinese New Year Fair

Feb. 8-9. Celebrating the Year of the Snake, the 42nd annual fair returns downtown. The two-day, family-friendly event features Chinese cuisine, live music and myriad cultural performances. Feb. 9. Globowl Therapy and Quartyard present “The Big Game Watch Party” at Quartyard’s alfresco property. Feb. 9. Popular for its ocean-view Skydeck and award-winning fish tacos, Sandbar Sports Bar & Grill in Mission Beach is hosting “The Big Game Party” on Sunday with a special Touchdown Package. PGA Tour’s 2025 Genesis Invitational 

Upcoming | Feb. 13-16. Relocated from the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, the PGA Tour’s Genesis Invitational golf tournament takes place this year at Torrey Pines Golf Course—with the Lodge at Torrey Pines providing accommodations and serving as a hub for the tournament’s operations. The event’s host, Tiger Woods, welcomes an elite assemblage of golf’s greatest players, who must pass strict eligibility categories. Now Open. RMD Group, known for its successful restaurants and nightlife venues, debuts its second location of Rustic Root (the first is a staple of the Gaslamp Quarter). Serving dinner and weekend brunch, the indoor/outdoor restaurant and bar emanates a contemporary coastal vibe, thanks to design firms Davis Ink and Arch5 Studio. Cygnet Theatre: Other Desert Cities

Feb. 5-March 2. Cygnet Theatre presents Jon Robin Baitz’s critically acclaimed play, Other Desert Cities, at Old Town Theatre. Painful and pivotal family secrets resurface when once-promising novelist Brooke Wyeth returns home to Palm Springs after a six-year absence to visit her parents, and announces the imminent publication of her tell-all memoir. The Old Globe: Empty Ride

Opens Feb. 8. Don’t miss The Old Globe theater’s commissioned world premiere of Keiko Green’s (pictured) poignant and funny play, Empty Ride, through March 2. (The play first launched in the 2024 Powers New Voices Festival.) The storyline centers on Kisa, a painter in Paris, who finds herself driving her ailing father’s taxi cab back in her small hometown in Japan following the devastating 2011 tsunami—haunted by supernatural remnants of what the floodwaters left behind.
