Dec. 8-23. The San Diego Botanic Garden is transformed into a dazzling winter wonderland with over 100,000 sparkling lights to create a magical holiday experience. Leave the hustle and bustle of the malls behind and enjoy a relaxing evening strolling through the lighted grounds and see the Poinsettia Garden, a special December treat. Dec. 11. Check out San Diego’s 40th annual Parade of Lights all around San Diego Bay. Awards will be given based on originality and the creative use of decorations depicting the parade theme. Categories include use of lighting, music, special effects, originality and the coveted best in parade. Fireworks begin at 5:30 p.m. The parade immediately follows, beginning at Shelter Island. Dec. 10. Straight No Chaser is reinventing the idea of a capella in the modern pop music scene. Ongoing. Santa Claus is indeed comin’ to town, in the holiday IMAX film, Santa vs. the Snowman. Tradition is turned on its head when an innocent and lovable snowman discovers Santa’s village and reaches in the workshop window to pick up a shiny, new flute. What ensues is an all-out, riotous battle for Christmas, with the snowman and his minions squaring off against Santa and his elf army for the rights to the worldwide gift delivery franchise of the jolly man in red.
