Balboa Park Celebrates 100 Years
Celebrate 100 years of San Diego’s “Crowning Jewel,” Balboa Park with anniversary events.
First built for the 1915 International Exposition in honor of the completion of the Panama Canal, Balboa Park stands in the same stately magnificence as it did 100 years ago. With such a noteworthy birthday, San Diego’s celebrations aim to highlight Balboa Park’s architectural beauty, rich history and artistic, scientific and cultural significance with brand new exhibitions and events.
The slogan “Elevate, Celebrate & Promote” points towards Balboa Park’s and the City of San Diego’s collaborative efforts to enhance these historical monuments and the experiences of visitors and locals alike, through breathtaking attractions, performances and new exhibits.
Visitors can tour 17 different museums, each hosting centennial features and exhibits, or wander through 19 gorgeous gardens and trails. Balboa is also home to the performing arts and theater, boasting one of the world’s largest outdoor pipe organs and the famous Old Globe Theatre.
