Originating in Ireland, seaweed baths are a century-old tradition originally developed to combat the effects of harsh Irish winters. Rich in iodine and essential amino acids that are known to remedy dry, damaged skin and restore a smooth and clear appearance, the detoxifying and softening agents in a seaweed soak have been proven to alleviate skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis as well as arthritis and body aches. Seaweek Sok brings Ireland to Newport Beach as owner Missy Finlay imports the hand-harvested, dehydrated, natural and organic seaweed from Ireland via Maine.
Each session begins with a 20-minute session in an infrared sauna, which is excellent for opening up the pores, detoxifying the skin and relieving arthritis and sore muscles. Next, guests settle into a claw foot bathtub filled with warm water, Himalayan salt and up to five pounds of seaweed for a 40-minute soak. Finlay explains, “When you soak in a warm to hot seaweed bath, the iodine, vitamins and minerals heal and preserve the skin. Besides relaxation, pain relief, softer skin and a happier mood, seaweed soaking is fun!” Seaweed Sok, 504 W. Balboa Blvd., Newport Beach, 949.689.7086. seaweedsok.com
