Wander through Balboa Park’s Plaza de Panama to enjoy the San Diego Museum of Art’s new outdoor sculpture collection.
The San Diego Museum of Art’s new exhibition celebrates the significance of sculpture and brings these exclusive pieces outdoors with free access to be enjoyed by everyone. The sculptures are often in storage due to limited exhibition space and conservation needs, but many have recently been restored and will are now reinstated thanks to a crowd-sourced fundraising campaign, #FreeTheArt.
Through February 2018, visitors to Balboa Park can enjoy walking among a total of 15 sculptures, including Auguste Rodin’s The Prodigal Son, Joan Miro’s Solar Bird, Lynn Chadwick’s The Watchers and Tony Rosenthal’s Odyssey III. The various textures, styles and materials of the pieces create a dynamic display that makes each visit unique.
