“Daycation Celebration” at Seaport Village

June 6. Kick off summer at Seaport Village, which hosts its fourth annual “Daycation Celebration” along the waterfront. The family-friendly extravaganza comprises an afternoon of festivities—including free carousel rides, a classic car showcase, live music and a DJ dance party, retail discounts and promos, a bubble fun zone, a balloon artist, a caricature artist, face painting, commemorative photo ops, food samples from Seaport Village eateries, and more. North Park Music Fest

June 6. Enjoy more than 30 live music acts performing across six North Park venues—including The Office, U-31, Bivouac Ciderworks, Queen B’s, True North Tavern and Pretzels & Pints—at this “walkable, multi-genre music takeover” of one of the city’s most creative ‘hoods. The music lineup includes Frankie and the Witch Fingers, Brainstory, Cut Chemist, Sugar Candy Mountain and The Gaslamp Killer. San Diego County Fair

Upcoming | June 10-July 5. “Once Upon a Fair” is the theme for the 2026 San Diego County Fair at Del Mar Fairgrounds. From themed exhibits and concerts, to games, special performances, rides, animals and treats in deep-fried form, this year’s fair is “a celebration of stories, books and authors—and the magic found between the lines.” Highlights include the “Fair-tastic” Food Competition; and the Toyota Summer Concert Series on the Corona Grand Stand Stage. Summer Lū’au Party at Kona Kai Resort

June 5. Kona Kai Resort & Spa transforms its bayfront property into the Hawaiian Islands with its sixth annual lū’au-themed celebration. Guests will enjoy live entertainment and Tahitian dancing, the Island Makeke marketplace, interactive workshops, curated photo ops and a fire dancer finale; plus a lei greeting, complimentary welcome drink, and buffet dinner of Polynesian cuisine. 5-8:30 p.m. See website for ticket pricing. Family Movie Night at Jimmy’s Famous

June 7. In celebration of summer, Jimmy’s Famous American Tavern launches a monthly “Family Movie Night” series, beginning with Sunday’s screening of The Sandlot on the lawn next to the restaurant. Bring your own blankets and lawn chairs; nachos, candy, beer, wine and cocktails will be available for purchase. Sabor del Barrio 

June 7. The third annual Sabor del Barrio (aka “Taste of Barrio Logan”) will showcase the community’s culinary destinations and art venues. Explore 35-plus restaurants, bakeries, breweries and coffeehouses; as well as the Barrio Logan cultural district’s museums and galleries. Participating venues includes Brujas Cocina, Fish Guts, Tacos Villasana, Morning Dew Libations and Co., Barrio Burger, Athenaeum Art Center, a tour of Tao Clay and many more. La Jolla Playhouse: Purpose

Closes June 7. The Tony Award-winner for “Best Play” in 2025, Branden Jacobs-Jenkins’ Purpose  runs at La Jolla Playhouse through Sunday. Directed by Delicia Turner Sonnenberg (pictured), the play also garnered a Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2025. It centers on the Jasper family of Chicago, known as a pillar of Black American politics. Tensions erupt in the family when youngest son Nazareth brings an uninvited friend home. The Old Globe: The Hombres

Through June 21. At The Old Globe, don’t miss the San Diego premiere of The Hombres, written by Tony Meneses. Thoughtfully capturing machismo culture, the play centers on Julian, a gay Latino yoga teacher, who clashes with Latino construction workers outside his studio, and invites them to take a class. As the men “open their chakras and let their guard down,” bonds and friendships form. James Vásquez directs. See website for showtimes and tickets. La Jolla Playhouse: The Monsters

Through June 28. Award-winning playwright Ngozi Anyanwu writes and stars with Sullivan Jones in The Monsters; La Jolla Playhouse stages its West Coast premiere June 2-28. Obsessed with fighting for years, “LIL” has been quietly following her estranged older brother, “BIG,” who is a fighter in the Mixed Martial Arts circuit, from afar … until she decides to show up on his doorstep one day. OMA: Kate Tova Exhibit

Now On View. Oceanside Museum of Art (OMA) presents Kate Tova: A Place to Rest (My Tired Mind), on view through Sept. 27. Explore a dynamic collection of paintings by California-based artist Kate Tova, whose work touches on modern life’s two pervasive conditions—collective exhaustion and burnout—captured by thought-provoking imagery of seasonal blooms, such as wildflower-covered hills and meadows.
