San Diego Swim Week

July 11-14. The Hard Rock Hotel San Diego hosts a four-day celebration devoted to all things swimwear. The fun begins with a welcome party and the release of San Diego Swim Week’s latest magazine cover at Techo Beso on Thursday; a networking event at the Hard Rock on Saturday afternoon, followed by a swimwear runway show that evening; and a closing runway show on Sunday. East Village Block Party

July 13. Attention: San Diego Padres fans and baseball lovers! The East Village Association presents its 12th annual block party in front of Petco Park, celebrating the community and our home team. The party spotlights myriad local businesses—including food trucks, a beer garden and craft cocktails; plus live music, retail vendors, photo ops and family-friendly activities; a Tribal Car Show by Truly Nolen Pest Control; an appearance by the San Diego Wave women’s soccer team; and more. 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. General admission is free. Holo Holo Music Festival

July 13-14. Head to Thrive Park at Snapdragon Stadium for two days of Polynesian, Hawaiian and reggae music at this uplifting traveling festival. (“Holo Holo” means “to travel, to sail, to move.”) The lineup of musicians includes J Boog, Figi (pictured), L.A.B., Sammy Johnson, SpawnBreezie, Fia, Finn Gruva and Tenelle on Saturday; and Maoli, Six60, Katchafire, Rebel Souljahz, Three Plus, Eli-Mac, Siaosi and Lea Love on Sunday—with special guest Kuulei Music; plus food vendors and libations. R&B Block Party at Quartyard

July 13. It’s an “All White Affair” for this Saturday’s R&B Block Party at outdoor venue Quartyard. Guests are encouraged to dress in their best white attire for an evening of ’70s soul music and ‘90s and early-2000s R&B jams “that you just don’t get in the club no more.” Think: throwback tunes by artists such as Jodeci, Bell Biv Devoe, Tony! Toni! Toné!, Blackstreet, Keith Sweat and Jagged Edge. San Diego Pride Week

July 13-21. San Diego’s weeklong Pride celebration is among the largest in the U.S.—drawing more than 300,000 LGBTQ supporters locally and from across the U.S. Events include She Fest, Light Up the Cathedral, the Spirt of Stonewall Rally, the Pride 5K Run + Walk, the annual Pride Parade, “Teenversionary,” and the Pride Festival in Balboa Park; plus around a dozen more happenings—including pool parties, block parties, standup comedy shows, and educational and community events. Now Available. Plunked oceanside at Belmont Park, rooftop Japanese restaurant Cannonball has debuted a new summer menu—featuring 30-plus sushi rolls and new appetizers, entrees and cocktails. Choose from an expanded nigiri and sashimi selection; new starters such as the baked blue crab dip and Korean beef bao buns; mains including whole fried snapper and steak tataki; new maki and hoso-maki rolls; and Japanese-inspired libations like the Coral Dragon and Smoke & Mirrors. “Beethoven by the Bay” at The Shell

July 12. Among the many July concerts at The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park, we’re particularly excited about “Beethoven by the Bay”—an all-Beethoven concert with the San Diego Symphony Orchestra and violinist Geneva Lewis (pictured). The repertoire includes the overture to Creatures of Prometheus; Beethoven’s Violin Concerto; and his epic Symphony No. 5. Nicolas Ellis conducts. “Twilight in the Park” Concerts at Balboa Park

Through Aug. 29. An annual summertime tradition of 40-plus years, Balboa Park’s “Twilight in the Park” concert series comprises live music and dancing at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion—taking place at 6:30 p.m. most Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays through Aug. 29—all free of charge. (Come at 5 p.m. for free dance lessons!) The concert lineup includes the Summer Winds Orchestra on July 11; Lady J and the Soulful Knights on July 24; Bayou Brothers on Aug. 14; Coronado Concert Band on Aug. 27; and The Moonlight Serenade Orchestra on Aug. 28. New San Diego Museum of Art Exhibit

Now On View. The San Diego Museum of Art presents a new exhibit, Garry Winogrand, Man of the Crowd, open through Jan. 12, 2025. One of the most pivotal artists in 20th-century American photography, Garry Winogrand (1928-1984) shot hundreds of thousands of pictures over his lifetime. He was known for his ability to move among crowds, using his lightweight Leica camera, capturing historic moments of the 1960s and 1970s in particular.
