Art Alive at San Diego Museum of Art

April 26-28. Life imitates art, and in this case, live flowers imitate art. The San Diego Museum of Art’s annual springtime exhibition returns! Talented local designers will have transformed nearly 100 works from the museum’s permanent art collection into stunning, large-scale floral sculptures and installations for a weekend-long exhibit (and spirited competition). Art Alive kicks off on Friday with the annual Bloom Bash, featuring top local restaurants, libations, music, dancing and interactive performances; the exhibit runs through Sunday. Adams Avenue Unplugged

April 27. Catch more than 60 acoustic live music performances across 20 stages (both indoor and outdoor), as a 2-mile stretch of Adams Avenue—from University Heights through Normal Heights to Kensington—transforms into a musical walkabout. The unique event format features boutique concerts showcasing blues, folk, jazz, country and world music, plus a bevy of local artists. The performances are staged throughout each neighborhood, from cafes to bars to galleries—each with their own distinctive vibe and food and drink offerings. (Be sure to wear comfy shoes!) Encinitas Spring Street Fair

April 27-28. Encinitas’ annual celebration of the spring season is back, complete with dozens of food and crafts vendors, multiple entertainment stages, children’s rides and more. Highlights include a craft beer garden featuring Duck Foot, Boochcraft, Jiant and Bücha; and myriad bands and DJs performing on the Beer Garden Main Stage, the Community Stage and the Lumberyard Courtyard Stage. San Diego Music Awards

Upcoming | April 30. Now in its 33rd year, the San Diego Music Awards honor the talent and diversity of the county’s music community; while benefitting the San Diego Music Foundation’s “Guitars for Schools” program. Head to Humphreys Concerts by the Bay on—when awards will be given for “Song of the Year,” “Artist of the Year, “Album of the Year,” “Best New Artist,” “Best Video” and nearly two dozen other categories. Uncorked: San Diego Wine Fest

April 27. Spanish Landing Park transforms into a bayfront oasis for oenophiles at the eighth annual Uncorked. Guests can sample from an array of more than 100 wines from around the world; plus hard cider, seltzer and canned cocktails; along with a live DJ, photo booth, local food trucks, lawn games and San Diego Bay views. San Diego Cocktail Championship

April 28. Shaking and stirring things up downtown, 21 local bars and restaurants are coming together to compete in the inaugural San Diego Cocktail Championship and block party—hosted by Rustic Root, Swing Social and Tiki Annex. Guests can sample a mini cocktail from each establishment—including Union Kitchen & Tap, Fernside, The Whiskey House, Ponce’s, Captain’s Quarters and Huntress—and vote for their favorite (with a chance to win $2,100 in gift cards). 1-6 p.m. Tickets start at $49. San Diego Opera’s Madama Butterfly

April 26 & 28. Spend a night (or an afternoon) at the opera this weekend. San Diego Opera presents Puccini’s spellbinding Madama Butterfly at the Civic Theatre on Friday (7:30 p.m.) and Sunday (2 p.m.). Be transported to Nagasaki, Japan—where cherry blossoms are in bloom and a struggling young geisha finds herself madly in love with an American naval officer … to devastating consequences. Mission Fed ArtWalk

April 27-28. What began as a modest art fair in 1984 has flourished into SoCal’s largest fine art festival—now in its 40th year. More than 250 artists will showcase paintings, sculptures, photography, jewelry, glass, metal, woodwork, drawings and more. Festivities include interactive art installations, street art, live music, food vendors and kids’ activities. Find live entertainment at the Piazza della Famiglia and across three other stages. Ride at The Old Globe

Closes April 28. Ready to ride? The smash-hit London musical, Ride, closes at The Old Globe on Sunday. Based on the book by Freya Catrin Smith with music and lyrics by Smith and Jack Williams—the story centers on Annie Londonderry, who sets out to ride a bicycle (even though she’s only ridden one twice) around the world.
