Fiesta at Fig
Celebrate Cinco de Mayo downtown at FIGat7th. The event marks the debut of the center’s outdoor cocktail service in their courtyard with DJs, margaritas and micheladas, Mexican-style craft beer and a make-your-own pinata adult arts and crafts workshop. 3-9 p.m.; stop by earlier in the day to enjoy La Victoria, a strolling, three-piece, female mariachi band, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
El Chavo
Always a hot spot for Cinco de Mayo in Los Angeles, head to the Silver Lake restaurant for a fiesta that features street corn, tacos, live music and plenty of options to wash it all down. El Chavo is partnering with Mezcal El Silencio, Jarritos and Tecate for the ultimate Cinco de Mayo drinks.
Casa Vega
The 60-year-old Studio City institution celebrates the holiday with a photo booth, specialty cocktail or shot by Maestro Dobel; and “Tacos & Tequila” Throwback Thursday promotion (.60 cent taco with purchase of The Boss Margarita) throughout the night.
Sol Cocina
Playa Vista’s new destination for Mexican fare offers specials like draft beer and a Casa Noble shot for $10; the SOL Grande Casa Noble House Margarita, which is shaken tableside with a choice of housemade sweet and sour mix or as a skinny margarita with fresh lime juice, agave and a splash of soda for only $8; and a host of other signature margaritas that come in flavors like mango con chile, cucumber jalapeno—that all can be ordered on the restaurant’s margarita luge. The party continues with souvenir glasses, party favors, sombreros, top food and more.
Heat in the Street Salsa Tasting & Competition
May 7. Does your salsa send taste buds through the stratosphere? Now is your chance to compete for glory (and prizes) in this fiery, fun, mouth-watering event that benefits Friends of Micheltorena. Entries are open to the public, just bring a homemade salsa labeled with all ingredients by 3 p.m. The Cinco de Mayo party also includes food, kids activities, raffle tickets for great prizes, music, dancing and live performances. Head to Pasadena to celebrate Cinco de Mayo over specialty tacos: al pastor made “The Raymond Way,” Yucatan grilled carrot with argan mole, roasted duck taco and more—including $5 micheladas.

Tequila enthusiasts looking to beat the crowds at Ortega 120 can head over to Hey 19 Public House, where renowned mixologist/cocktail maven Demi Stevens (and owner of both establishments) will offer her famous (and award-winning) 120 Margarita for one day only.

El Segundo’s Nuevo Rancho restaurant celebrates the holiday with special margarita snow cones ($8) and Chef Anne Conness’ Mexican hot dogs wrapped in bacon and topped with spicy mayo, guacamole and fancy pico ($8), both available as specials for the day. The restaurant also offers Calle 23 tequila flights for $15.
Gracias Madre
The organic and plant-based Mexican restaurant will be serving up new artisanal “blended” margaritas and sangrita, as well as chimichangas and complimentary cotton candy. Come dusk, a mariachi band will serenade revelers adjourned on the patio from 5-9 p.m.
