San Diego Pride
July 12-14. Star Trek star and gay rights activist George Takei is scheduled to be the Grand Marshal of the 39th annual Pride Parade this weekend. One of the largest festivals in the nation, San Diego Pride also includes a two-day festival, 5k run/walk, block party, rally and plenty of special events at various locations around the county. The famous cultural festival features multiple stages of entertainment, 300 participating vendor booths, an art exhibit, cultural presentations and great food. Parade begins Saturday at 11 a.m. at University Avenue and Normal Street. The festival is Saturday from noon-10 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. 619.297.7683.

July 13. The annual Switchfoot Bro-Am surf contest and concert is a day on the beach jam-packed with vendors, corporate surf team entries and live music performances by Switchfoot, Gentleman Hall, Pacific Ai, 78 Violet and Makua Rothman. The Bro-Am includes a pre-event auction soiree at the Sheraton Carlsbad complete with opportunity drawings, signature tastes from local restaurants and a sneak peek at Switchfoot’s upcoming debut feature film, as well as an after party held at the Belly Up. San Diego Padres

July 13-14 and 20-21. This 60th annual world championship tournament is expected to attract more than 1,200 three-person teams to compete in San Diego’s original beach softball. From 7:30 a.m. to sundown this first weekend, teams will play three-inning games in a double elimination tournament to single out winning teams in ten divisions. Magnolia Tap & Kitchen’s Grand Opening
July 12-14. Celebrate Magnolia’s grand opening with drink specials, live entertainment and one very special historical throwback—a horse-drawn carriage with live music, aptly called the “Magnolia Bandwagon,” that will ride through the streets of the Gaslamp this Friday and Saturday night, open for patrons to hop on. Hitch a ride to Magnolia and enjoy the restaurant’s California comfort and Southern spirit. The dainty menu is packed with hearty dishes and cocktails crafted from house-made ingredients. July 13. Shop local and find unique, one of a kind items amid performing arts and musical entertainment while meandering through the lively, creative area surrounding Ray Street. Businesses, galleries and shops in the North Park Arts District stay open late for this monthly art walk, which is now in its twelfth year. Participating galleries usually include Cirello Gallery, Ray Street Custom Framing, Soul Ryde, The Red Crow, Dani Dodge Art and more. Music of the Bee Gees
July 12-13. The Bee Gees achieved worldwide fame with a string of top 10 hits in the ’60s and ’70s their music is “ah, ah, ah, ah, stayin’ alive” thanks to the San Diego Symphony’s Summer Pops. The “Stayin’ Alive” tribute band will perform chart-topping hits such as “How Deep Is Your Love,” “Night Fever” and “You Should Be Dancing.” Dress in your best ‘60s retro outfit for a chance to win prizes. The Sklar Brothers
July 11-13.
