March 17-18. If there were one place to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Los Angeles, it would be at Tom Bergin’s Public House. The party starts at 6 a.m. with Irish breakfast and Irish coffee at the horseshoe bar. Festivities really get rolling at 11 a.m., when the party moves out into the parking lot and offers two bars, beer pong, a Fernet ice luge, giveaways and more until 2 a.m.. The chef-driven modern Kosher Jewish sandwich shop from chef Eric Greenspan and Midcourse Hospitality Group serves Greenspan’s modern approaches to Jewish food. The cornerstone of the menu is its sandwiches like the Bubbe (Grandmother) with brisket, arugula, crispy chicken skin gribnis, beet horseradish and crispy onions; the Zayde (Grandfather) with grilled salami, housemade pickles, caramelized onions and deli mustard. You can also find salads like their Waldorf with iceberg and romaine lettuces, dried cranberry, walnuts, green apples and balsamic vinegar; in addition to sides such as kugel bites and housemade pickles, plus a modern chicken soup with crispy kreplach garnish. South Pasadena’s most exciting new restaurant has quietly been amassing loyal fans with its eclectic menu of seasonal dishes and creative cocktails. Highlights include their Deviled Avocado with Peruvian ceviche and plantain chips (pictured above); veal bone marrow with salsa verde and a sous vide egg; mushroom pappardelle with locally foraged mushrooms and their B.Y.O.B, where you can build the burger of your dreams. Also find a election of pizzas and larger format entrees like a bone-in ribeye and Niman Ranch tomahawk pork chop. Craft Hill also hones in on their mixology offerings with cocktails crafted down to the finest detail. Their Sucker Punch is based on an English Milk Punch recipe that dates back to 1862 that takes three days to create. The front room of Laurel Hardware has transformed into a plush speakeasy boasting a cocktail menu dedicated to mezcal. Grab a seat by the fire and sip cocktails like the Francisco Toledo with Casamigos reposado, fresh pineapple, aromatic bitters with a La Nina del Mezcal Primario Joven rinse. Chef Alison Trent has also created a menu of south of the border noshes to compliment the drinks like al pastor tacos and chilled lobster tostadas. Viva Hollywood
The new restaurant in the former Beso location along Hollywood Boulevard offers Latin-inspired dishes and cocktails to complement. Highlights of the menu include ceviche blanco tostadas and chicken mole from chef Raymond Alvarez, who has manned the stoves at Toca Madera and Pink Taco. He also includes vegan dishes like the Casa Quesadilla, a crispy corn tortilla stuffed with vegan mozzarella and poblano peppers topped with guacamole.
