Celebrity Interview: Kris Jenner

kris-jenner
Kris Jenner, a woman of many trades.

If you ask reality TV matriarch Kris Jenner to describe what she does for a living, be prepared for a long-winded answer: She’s “momager” of the Kardashian-Jenner brood, an executive producer (of Keeping Up with the Kardashians), a fashion entrepreneur (she has her own line with QVC, the Kris Jenner Kollection) and a New York Times best-selling author.

She adds “talk-show host” to her long résumé with the debut of Kris, premiering July 15 on Fox. The show combines Jenner’s love of pop culture, lifestyle and celebrity on a set modeled after her home’s elaborate foyer. Before the launch of her gabfest, Jenner talked to Where from her Hidden Hills mansion about her new entertainment endeavour, megafamous family and favorite L.A. haunts. —Jessica Radloff

Why do a talk show now?

I enjoy doing other people’s talk shows and being a guest. I love the process of how it works…that energy! When I was offered the talk show, I wasn’t going to say no! It’s a dream come true.

What makes your show different from others?

It’s going to be an extension of my own personality. It will be a lot of things that the girls and I are interested in, and how we just live our lives. That’s really interesting—for whatever reason—to a lot of people who follow what we do, so I think it will be a lot of fun to put it all together in a talk show.

Will you debut your new granddaughter (from daughter Kim Kardashian and Kanye West) on the talk show?

I’m not going to bring the baby to work in the carrier strapped on my chest. I’m not that kind of a grandmother!…. I think Kim just needs to lie low for a while and stay home and relax. But I’m sure you’ll be hearing about my grandchild at one point or another! [Laughs.]

What’s the biggest misconception about you?

As a group, it’s always said that [we] are famous for being famous, but no, we are famous because we have five television shows on the air, and we have stores and businesses and the girls do photo shoots and magazine covers, and we work hard. There’s so much crap written that people lose sight of the fact that we’re a family.

You certainly love fabulous fashion! Where do you shop?

I like Neiman Marcus, of course. Maxfield’s, Dash on Melrose, Valentino, Chanel and Barneys.

Where do you like to dine? What’s your most recommended attractions in Los Angeles when it comes to places to eat?

We like to go to the Beverly Hills Hotel. We love Il Tramezzino. For breakfast, it’s gotta be Nate ‘n Al’s. For dinner, it would have to be Nobu at the beach, and Boa on Sunset, and who can forget Casa Vega?! And probably one of our favorite places to eat in Beverly Hills is La Scala.

Where do you go to be pampered?

I like Aida Thibiant…. It’s probably the best facial I’ve ever had in my life. I’ve been using their products since I was 17. Oh, it’s just divine.

What’s a favorite place that fans would be surprised to know?

Costco! I go there all the time. I could hang out in Costco for days!
