Taste Top Summer Wines at The Capital Grille’s The Generous Pour Wine Event

capital-grille-wineAs the seasons change, so does your palette for wine, and what better way to discover the best summer wines than at The Capital Grille’s The Generous Pour Wine Event, happening through Sept. 4.

For $25 with dinner, you can swirl and savor a robust collection of nine highly rated, highly allocated wines that The Capital Grille’s Master Sommelier, George Miliotes (one of only 173 Master Sommeliers in the world) hand-selected during his world travels. Each taste introduces you to some of the season’s newest wine trends, while also offering hard-to-find varietals as well as known favorites.

Start your meal with bubbles in the form of a Marquis de la Tour, NV a sparkling white whine from France’s Loire Valley; then move onto the La Cana Albariño, 2010 and Chateau St. Jean Belle Terre, Chardonnay, 2008, that each par perfectly with appetizers like the pan-fried calamari with hot cherry peppers, or prosciutto-wrapped mozzarella with vine-ripe tomatoes.

Selections of red wines hail domestically from California, along with international selections as well. One of the highlights of The Generous Pour is the US debut of the Tarima Hill Monastrell, 2009. The Capital Grille exclusively offers this wine from Alicante, Spain, for the next six weeks, before it is released to the general public. It, along with the Freemark Abbey, Cabernet Bosché, 2003, pair nicely with a Filet Mignon. Other delicious reds to pair with entree selections like the bone-in Kona crusted dry-aged sirloin with shallot butter or cedar-planked salmon with tomato-fennel relish include Conte Brandolini, Vistorta Merlot, 2006; Chalk Hill Estate, Cabernet Sauvignon, 2006, and Byron, Pinot Noir, 2009.

For dessert, RL Buller, The Portly Gentleman, port-style wine has aromas of berry fruits followed by sweet strawberry and cherry syrup flavors that compliment any choice for your sweet tooth, like a flowerless chocolate cake or strawberries Capital Grille.

Sample all nine wines, or choose to have multiple tastings of one or more of your favorites. A server will guide you through the experience, suggesting pairings for anything that you would like to order off the menu. The Capital Grille will also prepare custom wine flights upon request, if you’re interested in comparing and contrasting The Generous Pour selections.
