Marina Kitchen

marina-kitchenSan Diego Marriott Marquis & Marina’s signature restaurant is changing the way San Diego thinks of hotel dining.

Don’t let the hotel location fool you; Marina Kitchen is a destination unto itself—worthy of a visit to its stunningly sleek bar for drinks, followed by dinner overlooking waterfalls or on the outdoor porch perched at the marina’s edge. The experience equates to a tropical escape complete an outdoor veranda that offers vast views of the harbor. The tropical feeling is tempered by modern touches in the decor, then further warmed by comfort dishes that include a killer turkey potpie, a daily “roast” and pulled chicken noodle soup. Marina Kitchen’s menu is centered on fresh, seasonal ingredients, which pairs wonderfully with its notably West-coast oriented wine program. San Diego Marriott Marquis & Marina, 333 W. Harbor Drive, downtown. 619.699.8222. sandiegomarriottmarquisandmarina.com/dining/index.html

A Word on Los Angeles Traffic Jam Advice

A good tip to avoiding the worse of LA traffic is to stay off any highway at 5 p.m. and minimize your travel on Fridays. The Hollywood Freeway Southbound towards Vermont Ave. is probably one of the heaviest traffic crunches in the country, so steer clear of it altogether. I’d take the Pacific Coast Highway over the 405 any day of the week. On the West Side, Sepulveda Boulevard is a nice alternative to the 405. Always take the 73 over the South 5 whenever possible when traveling through Orange County. Stick to the local streets whenever possible. You may have to deal with streetlights, but you’ll see scenery that’s definitely more interesting than the bumper in front of you.
