Five Things to Know about Mama Shelter Hollywood
With six locations in Europe and first-ever domestic outpost in L.A., Mama Shelter has garnered attention for its eclectic yet elegant, fun and fancy style.
Mama Shelter is not your average hotel. The boutique brand’s first domestic outpost is decorated in vivid colors with patterned carpets and colored lights; and local artists embellished the first floor ceiling with colorful chalk artwork odes to none other than Mama.
Here are five things you want to know about Mama Shelter Hollywood:
It’s the first outpost of the European hotel collection to open in the United States. It has won many accolades, including “One of the Best Hotels in the World” by Travel + Leisure and “Travelers Choice 2012—one of the Top 25 Trendy Hotels in Europe.”
Take a Walk
Mama Shelter Hollywood is a block off bustling Cahuenga Blvd., just short stroll from the Walk of Fame, Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, Amoeba Music, The Arclight and numerous restaurants, coffee shops, bars and boutiques.
It’s the first hotel in the U.S. to have 27-inch iMacs, which come with streaming TV and movies, gratis XXX movies, radio, airplay, video/photo booth and more. Mama offers a host of other amenities, including Mama Skin bio-care products, choice bedside reading (either the Bible or Keith Richard’s autobiography) and the biggest foosball table you’ve ever seen located in the hotel’s lobby.
The hotel’s all-day restaurant is run by James Beard-nominated Chef Benjamin Bailey (L’Atelier Robuchon, the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, Petrossian and Fraiche). Mama also has a coffee shop serving Intelligentsia coffee and pastries from Farmshop—not to mention free wifi throughout the hotel.
Mama Shelter’s expansive bar boasts amble counter seating and comfortable banquets. Order cocktails like the Y Tu Mama Tambien (lime, cucumber, Hellfire shrub, almond syrup and your choice of Avion tequila or Vida mescal). Coming in October, you’ll also be able to drink and dine (and workout) on the hotel’s rooftop restaurant and lounge that will offer panoramic views of the Hollywood Hills and LA skyline.
