WurstkücheNightspots are raising the bar on beer menus, dumping tired, traditional brands in favor of craft and microbrews—and thanks to the recent explosion of brew bars, there are more options than ever. Newer entry The Surly Goat (7929 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood, 323.650.4628) in West Hollywood makes it all about brews, with 26 on tap, while Hollywood’s Stout (1544 N. Cahuenga Blvd., Hollywood, 323.460.4188) and Los Feliz’s Japanese- influenced Salaryman (4655 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood, 323.669.3922) (next door to Umami Burger) offer menus of gourmet burgers to complement lagers. Family-run Eagle Rock Brewery (3056 Roswell St., Eagle Rock, 323.257.7866) just opened a tasting room to offer beer education classes, while fine restaurant Chaya (525 S. Flower St., downtown, 213.236.9577) has capitalized on the trend by converting its patio into a Japanese beer garden. And our enthusiasm hasn’t waned for the slightly older Wurstküche (800 E. 3rd St., downtown, 213.687.4444), the loud, convivial beer hall that turns out exotic sausages and Belgian fries with addicting sauces.
